Biffy Clyro cover tops the UK charts

The Christmas chart battle is now over: X Factor winner Matt Cardle is currently Number One in the UK singles chart with When We Collide, his cover of Biffy Clyro's Many Of Horror.

Biffy's original version of the track is also a new entry in the Top 10 at Number Eight, while Slipknot / Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor is a new entry at 37 with his Christmas-themed charity single, X-M@$.

"That is SO great, everyone!," said Taylor via his Twitter. "Thank you to everyone who made it happen, and thank you all for all the money you've helped us raise. I will let everyone know how much we were able to raise for Teenage Cancer Trust as soon as I can. Well done, everyone!!!"

I#ve heard so many people complain about Matt's version of many of horror, it really isn't thatt bad. It sounds different because he doesn't have a deep scottish accent.
Corey Taylor's song is so fucking funny i love it so much :)

it's not that bad and from what I have heard he did X factor as a last resort for a record deal I've heard he wants to start a band whether this is true though I dunno

riddle me this: if X factor is a serious singing contest then as over 17 million people watched the final, how come the winner's song sold just 430,000? Was everyone else into Wand Erection? Did the others just download it illegally? Or have the saturated fat addled retards who watch the ultimate karaoke soap opera "contest" got the attention span of a goldfish and have moved on already? Oh and Corey Taylor's Xm@s song is genius!

I'm pretty gutted about Corey Taylor not being higher, but I'm pleased for Matt.
I'm not a big Biffy Clyro fan, but I quite like Many Of Horror, and Matt's version is quite good (:
Well done, Matt (:

Do NOT view this as a victory for Rock. It is a disaster. And that cunt Simon Cowell is still making money.

I made my feelings about 'When We Collide' very clear when the cover was first performed, and they haven't changed since. Its horrible. I despise it simply because 'Many of Horror' is such a brilliant song by one of the most unique rock bands the UK has produced for a long time. The original stands out on its own merits; while Matt's version follows the typical winner's song formula of verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-uplifting key change! and chorus. It cheapens the song and makes it sound like every other winner's song gone by in recent years.

Its also devoid of the passion and energy possessed in Biffy's version, and it also displayed how far along they've come in the time their career has progressed. Matt Cardle and the X-Factor just watered down the song, changed the title because you apparently can't use the word 'horror' on mainstream TV or radio, at least in Cowell's world. Its as disposable as his career will be.

This isn't born out of a rock/metal fan's hatred for commercial garbage like this, nor is it a criticism of Matt's ability as a singer in his own right - it's the ruination of a song I hold in high personal regard, particularly in how it helped me get through personal issues, and it still grates on me how it was used for commercial gain. Yes, Biffy are the real winners here, as the sheep and the cheerleaders on national radio who follow this show will simply keep lining their pockets for a while longer yet. But the sooner this karaoke fodder disappears for good, the better - particularly so whenever Biffy are discussed, we don't have to hear any reference to this poor excuse for a 'cover' version.

Shame that Corey didn't get into the top 10, will be interesting to see how much money was raised though :)

Just shows that having lots of different campaigns doesn't work - Simon Cowell won this year. Last year the RATM thing was something new and unexpected, and the only campaign to stop the X Factor. If there's gonna be another shot at getting the Christmas number 1 next year, it'll have to start earlier and be one big campaign like Rage. (I also think that if Corey announced the song earlier so that the facebook page could get more fans in the run up to the release of the song, it may have had more success).
Ah well, there's always next year!

Twat Candle's version of Many of Horror is fucking shite, you would have thought that the winner of a karaoke competition would be able to sing, but the guy sounds like a whiny bitch.
