Slipknot to headline Sonisphere 2011

Slipknot have been confirmed as one of the headliners of Sonisphere 2011 Kerrang! can reveal.

Sonisphere, which will be the band's first show together since the tragic death of bassist Paul Gray in May, is set to take place at Knebworth Park between July 8 - 10 next year.

An official statement from the band reads as follows:

"We're looking forward to spending our summer in Europe. This tour is about us and our fans. It's about celebrating the life of our brother, Paul and his legacy. The door is neither open nor closed. This tour is about burning down that door. See you [next]summer."

Look out for another exciting announcement on Monday, and be sure to pick up a copy of next week's Kerrang! magazine to see what frontman Corey Taylor has to say about the future of the band.

The other headliner will decide which festival I go to. If they're shit I'm going to download but if it's someone like Bullet or Maiden I'm going to Sonisphere.

Great that Slipknot will be in Europe next Summer, looking like the Festivals are going to have many strong bills.

I would like to see Sonisphere Knebworth blosom in to a full 3 day Festival.

I also hope that Machine Head can get to headline a day at either Download or Sonisphere as they are a great live band and have done so many great Festival performances.

Great start. I didn't go to Sonisphere last year and the line-up was immense. With Coroner announced for Bloodstock recently I've got a tough call to make!

this is amazing news tbh, but the festivals this year look like extreme competion, I bloody love slipknot and have done for a long time but my dream would be for avenged sevenfold to be added ( i know they won't ) Because i have exams when they're at download i cant see them then and they're truely amazing live ... Foo fighters should headline friday and someone really classic like metallica or RHCP on the sat and slipknot on the sunday, have a bit of variety and quality music, Just Don't have Bring me the horizon again!

Love the knot....But i dont know if they should be playing this show....

If they wanted to play shows for the memory of paul and the fans, then they should be doing their own shows and not the festival circuit, when the biggest amount of cash is put on the table.... A bit cynical, but it just doesnt seem right...
