"My tinnitus was at an extreme!"

Slipknot drummer and Murderdolls guitarist Joey Jordison has revealed why he stormed off stage in Bordeaux, France on January 27.

Fan-filmed YouTube footage, which has since been taken offline, show the guitarist remove his guitar and hurl it at the drumkit before leaving the stage.

"I want to clear up what exactly happened," writes Jordison in an online post. "I have a condition with my ears called tinnitus [a loud, persistent ringing cause by repeated exposure to loud noises], which in my case is very severe, and has been causing me excruciating pain for two years now. That night in Bordeaux, my tinnitus was at an extreme. I wanted to come out and play the best show that I could. However due to technical difficulties, and high-end feedback that persisted in the monitors, the pain within my ears became unbearable.

"I tried to attempt to play after I walked off the first time but it got worse," he continues. "I'm okay, but I have to watch my ears so as not to cause any permanent damage. I want to apologise to the fans in attendance in Bordeaux, I meant no disrespect whatsoever and I hope that my fans understand this."

Kinda sad for the fans... also sad for Joey, of course. He should take more care of his ears. Tinnitus shouldn't be taken lightly ...

tinnitus can get so bad people kill themselves.. so agreed, Shai, it should NOT be taken lightly.
And to anyone wanting to bash Joey, just think before you do, how you'd feel with a constant ringing in your ears that you can't get rid of..
its fucking awful.

Joey has been known to play slipknot shows with broken feet, so i guess this had to be extremely loud and painfull..

poor guy, i feel sorry for the fans to though. i suffer from the same thing but im not a rockstar so im not exsposed to the kinds of things that aggravate it but when it does come around its horrible, you just wanna curl up and scream. i dont blame him for doing what he did hes only human

I was reading about this on metal hammers web site yersterday but they didnt say why he stormed off ,i thought he might of been in a bad mood but now I know i feel bad for the poor guy ,it must be a horrible thing to have to put up with xx

@Daisy learn to form sentences properly.
He shouldn't have to get a new job he's doing what he loves best but you must be too stuck up to realise that. It must have been really painful for him to leave the stage and it took guts too. I bet that if he would have stayed on stage and tried to play through the set then you guys would have still complained saying that he played terribly. And for people saying it's not very "metal" grow up..

Don't be a stupid bitch! Tinnitus is very painful, and only his real fans would inderstand why he would have to leave in the middle of a show. It would be devestating if Joey ever gets ear damage! At least he explained why he left in the middle of a show! And a refund? Wtf? You are ridiculous!!!
