Rammstein win lawsuit in Apocalyptica case

German industrial metallers Rammstein have won a lawsuit for copyright infringement against Apocalyptica's record company, Sony Music Entertainment GmbH.

The case, which was heard at the Regional Court Of Berlin last month, was brought against Sony Music's after the label's now defunct subsidiary, Gun Records, claimed in marketing literature that Apocalyptica's 2007 album, Worlds Collide, featured Rammstein when it in fact it just featured Rammstein frontman Till Lindemann.

Sony Music were ordered to pay Rammstein €45,000 (approximately £37,000) in damages. That's a lot of cash for a typo!

The verdict comes as a double blow for the Finnish instrumentalists who have been forced to re-record their new single Not Strong Enough, which featured Shinedown frontman Brent Smith, after Smith's record company refused to give Apocalyptica clearance to use his vocals. Hoobastank frontman Doug Robb will instead take his place.

"Comes as a double blow"? Apocalyptica aren't even involved in this, only Sony Music Entertainment and Rammstein, so why is it bad for them? Or more to the point, why do Kerrang! love to make Apocalyptica look bad? Every bloody review by Kerrang! of their shows and albums has been the same, calling them gimmicks and that everyone hates 'em. Well, if you so much as listed to their stuff/watched them live properly, you would know otherwise. STOP with the biased views on them and other bands.

As for Rammstein, this advert is three years old. How the frick have they only just noticed? Are they really that desperate for money? I'm a huge fan of Rammstein as well but 45,000 euros seems unnecessary.

My version of the Worlds Collide cd says Rammsteins Till Lindemann on the cover and on the back with the tracklisting is listed as vocals by Till Lindemann. They must have caught the problem by release date in Australia and fixed it.

I think lawsuits like this are pathetic and show the band for who they are - money grabbers, NOT artists or musicians. Shame coz I liked Rammstein but this is disappointing.

Sad that Brent Smith cant sing on the single. Not Strong Enough is an awesome song - glad I bought the album for the true version. :)

Keep rokkn it Apocalyptica.... and remember you have fans in Australia, so how about a tour, eh?
