And Download's third headliner is...

Joining Linkin Park and System Of A Down as headliners of this year's Kerrang!-sponsored Download festival will be British rock icons Def Leppard!

"It'll be a quarter of a century since we first played at Donington [in 1986], and we're coming back to headline - twice in three years!" Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott tells Kerrang!.

"Last time we headlined Download in 2009, it was incredible," he adds. "There was a great vibe backstage and out front, too. The reaction we got from the audience was amazing. We have too much fun doing this!"

Be sure to pick up tomorrow's Kerrang! magazine to discover 16 other new additions to the bill!

Tickets for Download 2011 are now on sale from www.aloud.com. Festival organisers Live Nation have confirmed that prices will remain the same for Download 2011 as they were last year. Weekend tickets cost £145, optional extras are priced as follows: camping tickets (three days) £25, camping tickets (five days) £35, family camping (three days) £25, family camping (five days) £35, car park passes £15 advance or £20 on the day, campervan £40 and lockers £11.

Spent a lot of time defending Download against sonisphere fans saying that its legendry and amazing, what other festival has had ACDC and Aerosmith in the same weekend? But this... this is impossible to defend.

im not going to download, theres nothing i wanna see this year, but seriously who else do you think was avaliable? its not as simple as picking a band you want to headline and them accepting. Bands tour in cycles and sometimes you just get unlucky and struggle for decent bands. Look at 2008 for instance.

It could of been my chemical romance, put it that way, and having soad, linkin park and mcr as the headliners will mean that download would of had to install a creche and would make fuck all money on booze as half the attendence would be teeny boppers.

Alittle pissed off with this years headliners tbh...one played 2 years ago, one has lost its appeal and the other breaks up and reforms every 5 fffing minutes....come on Andy, you spent a shit load getting the biggest last year....so why not do it again this year? Sonisphere it is then. No competition whatsoever. This download line-up would have been an average line-up 5 years ago. Now its just very poor. Sonisphere on the other hand is absolutely incredible this year. And fair play to them for putting Biffy Clyro in there amongst the big names. I saw them at Reading last year and they blew me away. One things for sure though, i wont be going to download this year!

Festivals will have general years where there is a definite lull in decent line ups. It all depends on who's touring where/when and who they can afford to get onboard.

I love both Download and Sonisphere, and I'm sure that I could have maybe plodded along to Download and still had a great time regardless. But I'm afraid I will only spend a great amount money on festivals that have line ups I actually want to see.

The problem Download and Sonisphere both have is that there are no young metal hard/rock bands who are doing well.


Half of that problem is Kerrang itself, playing too much radio-friendly music.


Someone needs to start throwing some support behind some hard rock and metal bands, otherwise I can't say how Download will survive.

MTV and that hip-hop Rn B bullshit is killing real talent :(
