Gary Moore: 1952 -2011

Kerrang! is sad to report that former Thin Lizzy guitar legend Gary Moore has passed away.

Moore was found dead in his hotel room in the Costa del Sol earlier today (Sunday February 6). He was 58 years old.

"I am in total shock. He will always be in my thoughts and prayers and I just can't believe he is gone," said Thin Lizzy drummer Brian Downey. "I have known Gary since 1967 when he was in Platform Three and he's been an amazing friend ever since. It was a pleasure to play with Gary again in 2006 after his days with Lizzy."

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and bandmates past and present at this sad time.

Oh wow this is a real shock, gone way too soon. Only 58. Saw him around Brighton a few times. Going to miss you Gary as we just don't seem to get players like you very often.

Sam, I doubt it will affect their set at DL in any way, they'll play with the line-up from their last tour, which did not include Gary Moore.

Hope this is not the start of a year like last year where we lost lots of legends. Saw him many times in the 80s. RIP Mr Moore

I hope this is not going to be another year where we lose real music legends again. Saw him many times in the 80s and always blew me away how he sustained those notes on his guitar. RIP Mr Moore

My heart sunk yesterday when I heard the news. Parisienne Walkways et al have just become that much more poignant from now on that both Phil and Gary are gone. :(

R.I.P. GARY
I was brought up listening to Thin Lizzy with my dad so this has really upset us. My thoughts are with his family and the rest of the band. They already had to go through this with Phil :(

Sad, sad news. I grew up on Gary's music, which wasn't always easy to find here in the U.S. I spent many hours listening to him while thumbing thru Kerrang in the '80s. R.I.P.

Saw Gary solo and with Lizzy in the 80s many, many times and was fortunate enough to meet him once. Seemed a genuinely nice guy and one of the greatest guitarists ever. Very sad day indeed.
