Napalm Death to appear in Skins

Napalm Death frontman Barney Greenway has revealed that the Birmingham-based grindcore pioneers are set to make their acting debut in tomorrow night's episode (February 3) of the E4 teen drama Skins.

While the band will be featured performing live in a forthcoming episode, Barney's personal dreams of heading to Hollywood were dashed during the editing process.

"When the producers first submitted the idea, they had me down to play this Axl Rose type character," laughs Barney. "I told them we haven't got our heads up our arses and there's no way that we'd behave that way. I had a scene with the character Rich [Hardbeck, played by 17-year-old Alex Arnold]. He's a metal fan and I tell him to think for himself. Unfortunately, they gave [the scene] the big snip by the sounds of it. It was a good experience, but I don't think I could act my way out of a paper bag!"

Barney reveals that the band have fielded offers to appear on various television shows over the years but agreed to appear on the show because of its realistic depiction of teenage life.

"One thing that bothers me about TV is the way that teenagers are portrayed," says the vocalist. "It's down to the fucking Daily Mail's war on teenagers. They stigmatise young kids and it's bullshit. The thing I like about Skins is it gives a genuine perspective on growing up. That's why we agreed to do this show."

Napalm Death rule and all but Skins is NOT a realistic depiction of teenage life and it is utter nonsense and bullshit. I hope everyone in it dies of cancer and everyone who has ever been involved with it chokes on horse semen. Saying that, I hope the same goes for everyone at the Daily Mail too.

I love Napalm Death, awesome live band, but I can't bring myself to watch Skins tomorrow. Or ever. I wasn't much a fan of the show to begin with, but they just keep recycling it with new characters, its not really the same show that it was at the beginning. And the way that kid says 'I don't compromise, I'm metal!' evokes the image of a brattish five-year-old not getting his way in the sweet shop.

I'm a big metal fan and while I wouldn't say I follow trends, I don't go making pompous statements like that and I'm sure plenty of other metal fans don't either!

I have to say, I face-palmed myself when I heard the kid making that statement in the trailer. Cringeworthy did you say?...

The character reminds me of the utter knobs that I had the pleasure of spending time with at college: they didn't like anything that wasn't 'metal enough' in their opinion and disregarded everything and anyone that came in their path.

I'm hoping that I'm proven wrong when this episode airs tonight...

I might cringe my way through it later, just to see Napalm Death on the TV!

People have different opinions on everything.
I personally like Skins and I thought that this episode was awesome, also due to the fact of the awesome music that was played in it.

Even the intro to it was awesome...
"Warning, strong language and metal music throughout"
xD

i don't think napalm death did any damage to their reputation from appearing in skins. Even through all the recycled cliches and stereotypes used i quite enjoyed this episode, maybe its because the metal scene is full of people recycling twenty year old cliches and being rude to others just because their taste in music isn't heavy enough for them. I'm not trying to say all metal heads are like that....
