Slayer were forced to pull out of their appearance at the Sydney date of Australia's Soundwave festival yesterday (February 27) due to frontman Tom Araya being admitted to hospital.
Araya was taken ill moments before the band were due to take to the stage at the city's Showgrounds venue. Soundwave's promoter says he expects Araya to make a full recovery for the festival's next date in Melbourne on March 4.
There has been much speculation as to the nature of Araya's illness ranging from reoccurring back and neck problems to an ear infection. In a Facebook post, his wife, Sandra, says the frontman does not have an ear infection and is feeling much better.
"Tom does not have a ear infection!" she wrote. "Not sure who came up with this, but it is not true. They are waiting on test results. If this is coming from the promoter, I am sure he is only saying what he was told!"
"I spoke with Tom, he's feeling much better!," she added. "It will be a few days before test results come back. That's all I can say for now!
Tom Araya is not the only member of Slayer who's been in the wars lately, as previously reported, guitarist Jeff Hanneman is currently in hospital in the US receiving being treated for necrotising fasciitis, a rare flesh-eating disease he contracted from a spider bite.
