Dir en grey safe and well following Japanese earthquake

Following the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that hit Japan earlier today (March 11), a spokesperson for Dir en grey has contacted Kerrang! to say that the Osaka rockers are safe despite being in Tokyo when the natural disasters occurred.

"The band were in the studio working on their next record in Tokyo when the earthquake struck," reads a statement from the band's management. "All the members are all right and safe. But we still have aftershocks."

Oh yeah so relieved, i would'nt know what i'd do... c'mon, god knows how many people have died/dying and your only bothered bout a band. dear me, the world is'nt endin from natural disaster, it's endin by idiocity

Posted by CJL | March 11, 2011 3:39 PM | Reply to this

'But we still have aftershocks'...good to see that even in a time of disaster and adversity they have time to get shit faced!!!

Posted by Metal Bob | March 11, 2011 4:52 PM | Reply to this

CJL i completely agree with you, however, i do find it rather ironic that you say the world is ending from "idiocity" considering the word you're looking for is "idiocy" i'm happy that you can at least back up your argument with valid evidence, even if you yourself are the evidence
just thought i'd point that out

Posted by craig | March 11, 2011 5:34 PM | Reply to this

CJL - while I understand your point of view, I have to say I understand the 'would't know what to do' thing, too.

The point is that, while I like to deal with big picture, some people can't do this, so they are dividing things they cannot deal with - like enormous natural disasters, to part they know how to comprehend with - lost of people, which are important to them, which they are connected to - as an idols, infatuation, fascination. Almost... friends.

And I'm, of course, relieved, too. And not only because I love their music - because they're people and I just don't want to deal with deaths that would be to me... almost personal.

I'm sorry for every one lost life - I wish it wouldn't happen, but I can't help it.
Because of that, all I can do is just be happy and grateful for every one, that's safe and alive - because I believe that's the best way to deal with something as horrible as what happened in Japan.

Uh. Sounds rather cliche, and kinda crappy, but I'm a woman so I think I have right to sound like that... Especially in moments like this.

Yeah because that is the big story here Dir En Grey are safe. You really have big hearts kerrang. You should release a statement saying don't worry Japan, Dir En Grey are safe.

Are they the only band in Japan?

People this is a MUSIC site
Dir en grey make MUSIC
Thus the reason they reported them and not everybody else
They are not being heartless they are just letting fans know that a band that they love are doing okay
On the slayer guitarest's news (about him going to hospital) there are no comments sayin
'Oh Kerrang! you're ignoring all the other people in the hospital how can you be such dicks'
Its the same concept
People just need to calm down

That's okay. All of Japan are in immediate suffering, chaos, and confusion, with a very real threat of a nuclear blowout, but Dir En Grey are fine.

What, about (never cared to count them) 5 people in a band over the population of Japan? There were 300 dead only last night. All of the kids on this page saying they don't know what they'd do without them, need to grow up, and realise that thousands of people are going to be saying that at their relatives funerals.

KERRANG, you're just out to make money, show some integrity. Rest in peace to all who died in Japan, and my love extends to the families and friends of those dead.

Yes it is a music site but because it is a music site doesnt mean that they have to ignore the fact that all these people have been killed and there is such devestation. It wouldn't hurt kerrang to simply finish the article sending out best wishes or anything to the people of Japan the way they do if a musician dies they send out their best wishes to friends and family. Yes it's a music site but that doesn't mean they have to be ignorant to the facts and reality.

that's all well and good but think of all the other people who've been struck by it. like one band means more than thousands of other people :/

Posted by dan | March 13, 2011 12:02 AM | Reply to this

Oh come on! This is a MUSIC site, if you wanna hear about everybody else affected by the disaster go read a fucking CNN or BBC article. Kerrang and BBC(for instance) covers different things, BBC is a general news company while Kerrang is a motherfucking music news company. Get your head out of your ass and use those brain cells you have, even if there's only a couple of them, up in that cardboard box of a head.

Posted by Oliver | March 13, 2011 3:20 AM | Reply to this

Kerrang publish music related news...alongside metal hammer and revolver magazine, and neither of those sites has published anything related to the recent natural disasters, primarily because they don't specialise in news like that. They aren't being tactless or ignorant, they are just providing updates on everything connected to the medium they focus on: music. People who want to find out about the tsunami would go to BBC news or Sky, and people who want to find out about bands like Dir En Grey would look here instead.

i am so happy you all are ok! i was worried :(

Posted by alyssa | March 13, 2011 10:27 PM | Reply to this

The point of the whole thing is, yes they say the band are safe but they could give some sort of mention to how many people have suffered, does'nt have to be you full cover story your fuckng fuck stick. You miss the point completely cos u r a tit.

I almost died when I saw the news footage when I woke up. I spend a lot of my time listening to Dir en Grey... they're my favorite band in the world...
The only thing that went through my mind, as bad as it sounds was, "Kyo..." (pathetic when they're having nuclear power plant problems...)
I'm so happy...

Bullet for my valentine?

Don't mention mallcore pop music in the presence of real music like Diru.

go cry your eyes out, bleed me a river, and die in your own tears.

Posted by Martin | March 17, 2011 2:48 AM | Reply to this

We are VERY VERY GLAD that the band is ok and that doesn't mean that they are the only ones we're worried about ;]

56.7 million people die everyday, do you care or even know? we only care for what we see or for people we know, so many die everyday and no one even knows, so everyone that are criticizing the ppl that are "glad" that the band is ok, face it you're just being hypocritical so stop judging and shut the fuck up.

Thanks Kerrang!

Posted by Uka_ralho | March 18, 2011 5:32 AM | Reply to this

and DIR EN GREY is a band but they still human and we should be GLAD for every single life saved in this disaster.

Posted by Uka_ralho | March 18, 2011 5:49 AM | Reply to this

If 56.7 million people die every day then why don't kerrang release a statement every day saying the following bands are safe and well. Nobody was criticising the people that are glad, it was simply to point out the real news story involved not just the band being safe. I am not a Dir En Grey fan by any means but it is good they are safe but it doesn't take much to point out the true nature of the disaster and to send best wishes without it being a news report.

So now this begs the question, will Dir en grey donate a portion of the sales of their next album to the quake relief fund? I mean, if they didn't they would look like total selfish pricks so they kinda have to. Even Gackt has set up a charity.

Oh and another thing, you just know the Westboro Brainless Church is gunna start up some kinda Gawd Hates Japan campaign and probably start trawling Anime cons or some ridiculous emotionally exploitive sh*t.

well im glad to hear they are safe,
and another thing, all you people on here bitching and complaining about how kerrang doesnt update about japan or the people there, once again this is a music website, they are here to talk about music and artists. now if you feel that kerrang is being heartless by only mentioning dir en grey's safety, then thats an issue you have. and instead of bitching and complaining about it on a comment, why dont you do something to help out japan? all this complaining doesnt prove anything but that yall like to run your mouth, thinking youre getting your point across when in fact, you just sit there, run your mouth, and stare at the computer screen and do nothing.
there are other bands there, but their management didnt reach out to kerrang to let them know, so if you are in fact so concerned about those other bands, then ask kerrang or go to the bands website and ask if they are ok.
some of you claim this world is going to crap not knowing what really matters, why dont you sit back and read your comments aloud and see how exactly youre contributing to that.

but once again, im glad they are ok and the people of japan are pushing forward to get passed this.
