The Ghost Of A Thousand call it a day

The Ghost Of A Thousand have called it a day.

In a post on their official Tumblr blog, the Brighton post-hardcore quintet have revealed that it has become "increasingly difficult" to commit themselves to being a touring band and have decided to quit after a seven year career.

"It's been increasingly difficult to commit ourselves to a touring band and unfortunately 'real life' has finally gotten the better of us," reads the statement. "We know there's been rumours for a while and we're sorry that we haven't commented sooner but to be honest, we were hoping that things would work themselves out. But our situation hasn't changed and we are extremely devastated to finally end it.

"We've had an amazing ride and made dreams come true," they continue, "so we would like to thank everybody who's helped us along the way, whether you've booked us for shows, giving us a floor to sleep on, fed us, toured with us or done anything to keep the band on the road, we're grateful to the lot of you and hope to see you soon.

"Most importantly we would like to thank all our fans, friends and family who supported us over the years," they add. "We really couldn't have done it without you guys so, from the bottom of our breaking hearts - thank you!"

it just shows how fragile a band can be. at least they made some good music along the way

I was just thinking recently, what is wrong with the music industry? We live in a world where talentless yodelers can go on television shows armed with nothing but a backstory, yet hardworking bands such as TGOAT can produce nothing but stellar music and put on some of the most intense, brutal and amazing shows I have ever seen in my life and still be playing pub venues well into six years of their lifespan? TGOAT was a band that really epitomised the amazing sense of comradeship in the UK hardcore community, and, having seen them numerous times over the past few years, I can safely say that for many fans, TGOAT will never really die. Fuck the X Factor clones, long live The Ghost Of A Thousand!

Although of course the second sentence was not supposed to end in a question mark. Damn these emotions, ruining my grammar knowledge!

I agree it is a shame these guys have been the underdogs for years unfortunatly living in Gallows shadow for years. (not dissing Gallows, I love em!")

I don't want this to be April fools, I really hope they're dead.

how is it that great uk hardcore bands can no longer make ends meet despite being fucking incredible, and brokencyde are still making 'music'?x

Posted by woooders | April 1, 2011 11:03 AM | Reply to this

This is an absolute fucking disaster. They are everything that makes me love music. Music, for me, won't sound the same without them around. Devastated.

could not be more gutted, this kind of thing is happening far too often these days, and it's symptomatic of the slow strangulation of real music through a combination of illegal downloading and bullshit like the x factor.
in TGOAT and Reuben i've lost my 2 favourite bands through this crap in 3 years and it's absolutely heartbreaking. dread to think what the state of music's going to be in 10 years' time.
congratulations to the guys anyway for flying the flag of real music up to the death, you truly will never be forgotten.

Absolutely gutted. seen these guys three times live and they never failed to impress. the music scene just ain't gonna be the same with out them :/

Absolutley gutted.

Shame to see image based wastes of space like My Passion get big breaks and legit hard working bands like TGOAT getting stuck on the toilet circuit.

RIP to one of the best bands British music has had in the past 10 years.
