Green Day film to be produced by Tom Hanks

After being transformed into a hit Broadway show, Green Day's mega-selling 2004 album American Idiot will now be adapted for the big screen.

The film will be backed by Universal Pictures and produced by Forrest Gump star Tom Hanks.

A release date for the film has not yet been set.

Bille, Mike and Tre wouldnt sit there and say ''HEY LETS MAKE A MOVIE!'' they would of been approached by someone exactly how they were approached by the people who did the musical.

This has proberly come from people in the film industry that thought they could get success turning the musical into a movie.

American Idiot is one of the biggest albums to date so shit like this is gonna happen in this day and age!

i just wanna say that i went to new yourk to see American Idiot and it was fucking amazing and i think that everyone should stop saying that a movie will be crap. Yes it wont be as thrilling as the live experience but if its anything like the Broadway show then it will be sensational. People should also stop hating Green Day, they can do what they like and its not as if losing a few fans who think they're sell outs will make any difference to their giant fanbase :)

I love Green Day and this will probably work out great (hopefully). They do need to move on from American Idiot though :-/ To whoever mentioned it, a Danger Days movie would be fucking amazing, i would watch it as many times as i watch LOTMS :D

I cant wait...This will be an amazing movie. Im so excited as long as Billie Joe is St. Jimmy, Rebeeca Naomi Jones is Whatsername, and John Gallagher is Johnny! I love Green Day and their extrondinary music, a movie will be awesome.....Just to see Billie Joe in action will be amazing. I cant wait! How in the world can some of you ppl call yourselves Green Day fans? You must not be looking at the big picture of their life and status if you call them sell outs. I think the idea to create this into a movie is great especially if you were one of the un-lucky ppl who didnt get to go see it! If you guys no truely what your saying about him by calling him a sell out then your wrong! Not one of them has changed due to their new fame....They are still the same band they were back in 2008,back in 2004, back in 1997. And they have moved on from this album....They made and released 21st Century Breakdown and just did a Awesome as f**k tour....They have moved on. And it wasnt all left up to Billie Joe if it was made into a movie it had to come from someone else first. Dis-ing Green Day isnt gonna stop it and the idea that they are one of the only Punk bands that are stilling creating new music and still as popular as they are, it shows what some ppl really and truely think about them! I think Tom Hanks will be great and being who he is, he wont f**k around. I think it will be great and if they were smart they'd turn 21st Century Breakdown inot a musical.......
