Green Day begin work on new album

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has revealed that the Californian punks have been working on their follow-up to 2009's 21st Century Breakdown.

"OK, here's the scoop," writes Armstrong in a post on Twitter. "[Green Day] has been jamming new songs everyday. There's a tonne of new songs. The direction is fresh and high energy. Feels great.

"I don't want to give away too much but just know that me, Mike [Dirnt, bass] and Tre [Cool, drums] and Jason [Freese, keyboards] are collaborating and having the best time playing music. And that's not bullshit!!

I cannot wait for this - I've been a huge Green Day fan for many years and I hope this album will be just as good as the others!

isn't it Jason White he's referring to?

Posted by Olidayyy | May 31, 2011 12:35 PM | Reply to this

It's more likely to be Jason White than Jason Freese.

I seriously can't wait! Green Day re-invent themselves like pro's! But, their roots still shine through with Billie Joe's angst tinged, beautiful lyrics. I trust their song writing abilities so much, I'd buy the album before hearing the 1st single. Green Day forever! Xxx

So long as it's better than 21st century breakdown I'll be happy. Hated that last album, was nothing like the greenday I love

No it will be Jason Freese Jason White has nothing to do with the recording or writing process, Jason Freese does the keyboards and what not on the recordings.

This is good news. Very good news. I hope the album is released soon! :)

Nope, it's Jason Freese. He's the bald(ing) one who plays Sax and Keyboards live. From this I'd expect to have a few more songs like 'Viva La Gloria' with intricate piano parts :D Sorry if i went on for a bit, experience of 9 years of loving Green Day and I'm Only 14.

jason white is just the touring guitarist, he has no input in writing the songs where as freese is the actual pianist so is more likely to give input on piano ideas

I reckon it's probably Jason White. He went up to NY with the band to work on stuff while Billie was on Broadway, Freese didn't go up. White's been working with them for 11 years, he's bound to start writing with them eventually. Besides Freese isn't involved in the writing process. "All music by Green Day" is written in all their albums, it would have credited Freese if he was involved in writing those piano parts.

I think Jason Freese is as likely to be writing songs with them as jason white.
why would they need another guitar player? Jason Freese is a songwriter, record producer, and recording engineer to start off with and he plays piano, saxophone, horns, accordion, clarinet... whatever the hell he plays.

omg! yay i love green day so much ever since i was about 8 and heard american idiot! Was a bit upset before when i heard that they were getting a new album out and it turned out o be a live album :( but yay!

Posted by gabby | June 2, 2011 5:04 PM | Reply to this

I hope it's a return to their Dookie era stuff, but from the fact that a keyboardist is involved, that's not likely :(

Posted by Rob | June 2, 2011 9:30 PM | Reply to this

Okay I seriously doubt they mean jason freese. Jason white's been in like 4 of their videos and does all the solos when they play live bar american idiot which billie plays. I really do hope it's more of their edgey stuff like cigarettes and valentines and nimrod and kerplunk and less rock opera crap cos the old stuff's just far better.

But he hasn't actually said that they're recording a new album. Simply that they are collaborating and having a great time playing music, naturally. It could just be a single here and there or new numbers on a tour. It takes a lot of finance and work to make an album an international success. Having done this several times over they may be kicking back a little. After all, they will have to slow it down one day! Watch this space I guess.

wait .. wait .. wait . There are three signs that green day are making a new album ... one , quietness from green day for a while .. two - Foxbro hottubs release a album or another side project , 3 - unlreased demo . most likely 3 months before the album is released
