Gerard Way joins Blink 182!

My Chemical Romance vocalist Gerard Way joined Blink 182 on Sunday (September 11) at the DTE Energy Music Theater in Michigan.

Blink 182's Tom DeLonge was ill and struggling with his vocals, so the MCR frontman joined the band onstage for a run through of First Date.

Check out the fan-shot footage below!

From great (I brought you my bullets...), to good (three cheers...) to good again (black parade) to SHIT (killjoys/GLEE)... Seemingly My Chemical Romance are seriously deteriorating. They gotta remember who they REALLY are. I'm not bothered about Blink though.

@howardax Gerard said in an interview that actually it's Danger Days that is who they are. I quote "That angry gay singing helana, that wasn't me." You don't have to like their new stuff, it's not compulsary. But just because you don't like it, it doesn't mean it's shit. It just means you don't like it. Why are people so arogant about their music tastes nowedays? Why is it that we bash anybody who likes different music? We're not going to all like different music, are we? Everybodies music taste is different. So people, stop being arse holes about it!

@Dani - the reason I don't like MCR isn't because the music's terrible - by-the-way I wasn't FORCING people to believe it like some musical extremist; I hate it when people get angry for others giving opinion of a band they like - but it's because they sold out, gave into cravings and totally changed. They had a loyal fanbase who were devoted to them only to be betrayed by MCR saying that Killjoys are their REAL sound... They only like it because it got them more money - if it sucked and was a commercial fail then they would have said it was awful and that they were "blinded" or something.

@Rachel & Howardax. I could not care less about this band, but I have to disagree.

When a band plays the same music over and over again, people start to get bored with them. MCR are masters at re-inventing themselves, they're the same people they've always been, it's only the look that's changed, well, that and the Powerman 5000-esque music.

@Rachel - it's nice that someone can see the somewhat-truth (ask yourselves inside - are they really better? Or is it just another shit-machine out of the pop-pot) and that you can see beyond the glitz and outright selloutness that the band now have. Also unlike the acceptable process of "re-inventing" (good term BTW) they went the whole 9 yards, dropped their loyal fans - which looked up to them - and reached out to sci-fi geeks and in-crowd 12 year olds. It's nice to listen to for some but for traditional fans like me and Rachel it's the sound of a cat being stabbed to death. And that's before you SEE the sell-outs in person. People say that Robert Pattinson is a sparkle bitch... They obviously haven't met the new My Chemical Romance yet.

Posted by howardax | September 19, 2011 11:35 PM | Reply to this

Last words: (quote from Gerard in Kerrang interview - asked for inspiring lyrics) "fame is now injectable from Planetary(GO!)" The sound of a sell-out.

Posted by Howardax | September 24, 2011 1:58 PM | Reply to this

Howardax- My Chemical Romance have not 'sold out'. The lyric "fame is now injectable" from Planetary is meant to be ironic, obviously. All the lyrics have the same imagery, the same vibe that all of their other albums have, and they're still just as excited and energetic on stage as they've always been. They respect their fans, and would not have scrapped an entire album before this one unless they really wanted to make the best music they could possibly make. And how have they 'dropped their loyal fans'? I have friends that prefer their older stuff, but that doesn't mean they've been 'dropped'. It's just an opinion you have, which, I think, it ridiculously judgemental, because all they're doing is making the best music they can (and Danger Days is the best album they've made so far, like it or not) and if you don't like it, fine, but there's no need to insult their fans by referring to them as 'sci-fi geeks and in-crowd 12 year olds'.

Howardx- Get over it. So you don't like their new stuff. My Chemical Romance do actually still have loyal fans. We aren't all 'sci-fi geeks and in-crowd 12 year olds', as you put it. They haven't even changed all that much, if you really hear the lyrics. "Fame is now injectable from Planetary(GO!)" is obviously ironic. If you actually were once, as you said, a 'loyal fan', you would understand that this is the kind of visual irony that Gerard uses a lot in his lyrics. Maybe they have a slightly more pop sound, but it's not afraid to be what it is. No one really cares if you're so narrow minded that you won't listen to something just because it's gotten more popular, or they've, as you say, 'sold out'. In my opinion it's just sad. So please, take your hate elsewhere, because no one here cares.

Lol, fail, my computer's glitchy XD Apologies for the repetition of my comments! Haha, I think you get the gist ;)

Posted by Leia | September 24, 2011 5:20 PM | Reply to this

@leia bring it on. this is a free country - so I'm ALLOWED to speak my opinion - I'm not from your little Nazi beliefs of no free speech. And judging from the fact that you're named after a star wars character, my sci-fi judgement is very much intact. And ironic? Please - my chinchilla can make better irony. Also, don't take me as a non-loyal fan EVER, because all that makes you is a hypocrite. I still am a very loyal fan, but of their old music (during live shows he sings the old songs with a passion lost in Danger Days). Ok - he helps the japan tsunami and that's nice, but he's still a sell out, with his pop and naming songs about his DEAD GRANDMOTHER "gay".

Why do you feel the need to post two Nazi-like hate-free-speech posts on here anyway? All it does is take up space that can easily be put to better use. Finally, just because you don't care about other's opinions, doesn't mean that no-else cares. "get the gist?" - howardax out.

omg my chemical romance are amazing because they have so much chemistry between them and it just brings the band together xxxxx

Posted by Sphiee-leigh Way | September 26, 2011 1:32 PM | Reply to this

That judgement is very much NOT in tact, seeing at that actually is my name, so please don't make fun of it. And my computer was glitching, and saying I hadn't posted the message, so I had to re write it. Then I realised it actually had uploaded already. Sorry if a simple mistake is going to 'take up space that can easily be put to better use', if I could delete the other ones I gladly would.
If you're a loyal fan, then you respect the fact that people get a lot of crap all the time for liking bands, and often have to defend them against people like you. Because I was angry I said no one cares about your opinion, which was rude of me, and I'm sorry for that.

But when did Gerard 'name songs about his DEAD GRANDMOTHER "gay"'? And I'm sorry, but the statement 'he's still a sell out, with his pop' makes absolutely no sense to me. Also, I don't see how you can't see the irony in that line- Fame is injectable, but faith is unavailable. It's referring to the fact that so many people just put their faith into drugs and are left superficial and without hope.

If that went over your head, then maybe the album was never intended for you to listen to. It was made for people with open minds. And someone as judgemental as to assume all fans of a band have to be star wars geeks obviously isn't. Also, I think comparing me to a Nazi was completely irrelevant and very offensive, and I'm sorry, but any respect for you I had for sticking up for your opinion has pretty much disappeared. If the obvious irony throughout the album is too complex for you, may I suggest All Time Low- their puns are much simpler.

That's all I have to say to you.

Posted by Leia | September 26, 2011 5:46 PM | Reply to this

@Leia. Ah you're back and kicking! I've missed your silencing! And how tough too -Funny you should say "that's all I have to say" - run out of insults and opinion silencing? And also, an ignorant fan-girl's respect doesn't matter when you're honest about what you think. To be honest, telling me to listen to all time low isn't exactly a harsh insult - moreover - it shows your ignorance of other peoples bands. How refreshing.

Wondering where I got the quote from? Look up to Dani's post. Well done for telling the truth BTW - that's all I need to know about them. And so what if he does songs about drugs n' stuff? Pretty much EVERY OTHER BAND has a song about drugs - MCR are nothing special... Sorry for calling you a Nazi - but that's what people get for being ignorant and blind from the truth, not to mention insulting my intelligence. Well that's all I need to say (besides that Gerard Way sparkles more than Robert Pattinson nowadays and kicks drummers off for one little offense that he regretted)... Over to you.

I'm so sick of people dissing bands like MCR just because they changed their sound a bit. So what if that means they're selling more albums, is that a bad thing? Because last I checked if you're selling a ton of records you're doing pretty damn good for a band. How the hell can you judge them and say that they just did it for money and they've changed when all they've done is experimented what they have. If I ever got famous in a band the first thing I'd want to do would be to make the most of it while it lasted and try out new sounds. I still think they're music is kick ass and I'm not saying everyone should like them because that would obviously never happen but I think it's ridiculous that people will judge a band and not like them just because of decisions they make or how famous they get and why. They're called a band for the reason that they make music so if you want to judge them focus on that point. And anyway I don't understand why this long band debate even began with you people on here the video was just showing a singer volunteering to sing with a band why does that need a mass debate on the singers right to fame?

@dearna

You make some very valid points. And also you make them in a respectable manner, which I admire. One criticism though, is the fact that it is decisions that define a band and peoples opinion. If a band does a great song, then they're known for that song, likewise with MCRs glamour electro/drummer-firing that influences opinion. Still good points though.

MCR has saved my life and I've been a fan since their second album REVENGE (I have all their albums now) and I hate it when people say their musics changed. So what if it has. Their still the same person inside, their still the same band that they were over 10 years ago. If your music stays the same then you don't get new fans; it's hard to write new material for things that you already have.
They were never in it for the money. The money just happens to come with the job that they have.

Love Blink-182, hope your feeling better now Tom! love the new album "Neighbourhoods"

not fan of "MCR" that much, not my cup tea, but I'd rather have them over rap music any day, but that was cool of him to do that for Tom.
