Meh, Deaf havana is the only decent band there really, every week nearly theres always an you me at six poster. Great just great. This is probably the worst Kerrang yet. </3 At least theres Evanescence and Paramore...<33

Just... no. This is going to be terrible. This isn't a tribute this is murder. Awful.

Posted by Kieran | September 20, 2011 7:23 PM | Reply to this

scuzz should make a magazine they'd do a better job, they'd have proper bands in it

Posted by j shadows | September 20, 2011 7:24 PM | Reply to this

The Young Guns cover of 'Polly' could be quite interesting. Plus there's a review of 'Neighbourhoods' by Blink :DD

Posted by Dan Clark | September 20, 2011 7:29 PM | Reply to this

i thought mcr were meant to be in this issues? :(

Posted by Isla Waterson | September 20, 2011 7:47 PM | Reply to this

I have a good idea for kerrang... They should half the magazine about people like - freddie murcury (thanks for the poster a few weeks back!!), bon scott, angus young, brian may/jhonson. Then Bands like sliknot, foo fighters (bands that have been around quite long) And then lots of mcr :) (yes, am in the mcrmy) kaiser chief (just cause their never mentiond), and panic at the disco., and artic monkeys :) DEAL?

can't decide whether this CD is a good idea or not... it's kinda a nice idea, but i reserve judgement til i hear it...

i wish they'd do a horrible crowes/brian fallon/ gaslight anthem poster :)

Posted by lauren | September 20, 2011 9:59 PM | Reply to this

If Neighbourhoods gets less that 5 K's I will never read this magazine again...

Only really looking forward to the DEP cover. The rest are middle-of-the-road rubbish.
Good piece about Nevermind, review of Letlive., and Mastodon album though.

Just because Francesqa, Deaf Havana and Framing Hanley are not famous, you all think they're not good? Kerrang should do more reviews about these bands! btw, I love The Blackout!

Posted by B | September 21, 2011 3:35 PM | Reply to this

framing hanley could never ruin anything, open your mind to the way others sound. i for one am glad they dont sound like other bands. youre just jealous you arent on a cd :)

Why the hell are The Blackout on this CD? Surely the bands that contribute a cover to a covers album of a band, should be bands that love the the band that they are covering? The Blackout always go on about how they hate Nirvana and Kurt Cobain, they even wrote a song about it. I'm not even a 'hater', I actually quite like The Blackout(pre-Hope at least) I just think it's disgraceful that they are on this CD.

Also, Framing Hanley are fucking awful.

I kinda like Framing Hanley. I think Nixon has a unique, raspy voice like Kurt had. (Not that I'm comparing them on any level.) I don't think they'll be as bad as people are saying they will be.
But seriously, KIGH? They're a bit... pop-ish for Nirvana, aren't they?

The entire CD is a bag of shite. Even Evile, who are an awesome band, have sullied themselves. Thank god for the original which I have had to listen to to try to erase the sheer horrific low quality of this abomination.

the blackout dished out hate on nirvana / kurt (because they are morons with no music taste) on more than one occasion and this made me very reluctant to give them a liston, untill i actualy went to see them live, and they wernt that bad tbh......but i am still puzzled as to why they are singing a nirvana tribute cd :L make your mind up lads

Posted by Katy | September 22, 2011 12:50 AM | Reply to this

You couldn't have just left it alone? You couldn't have found another way to celebrate 20 years? No, instead you had to make a horrible tribute CD .

Posted by Ashley | September 22, 2011 2:14 AM | Reply to this

Are you having a fucking laugh! Mastadons new album is terrible and you give it 5 stars but only give Blink-182's new album 3 stars even though you have a full page spread of it on the back of the mag! you should be put in front of a firing squad you are scum!

What in fuck's name have Spycatcher done to Something In The Way? He sounds like he's got a pine cone up his bum.
Pretty much the entire CD is a travesty. The only songs I found myself enjoying were On A Plain and Endless, Nameless.

Lol at all the kids crying over Blink's 3 K review: Blink's main selling point was their immature lyrics and stage presence, which gets a little weary when they're knocking on the door of forty...
In a shit(tish)) genre they're one of the shittest bands out there, early Green Day were miles ahead of them, and they've at least grown out of their immature phase to become one of the biggest bands on the ace of the planet, so hearing Tom Delonge's shitty screachy voice after eight years isn't the dream return, except for Blink's mentally challenged fanbois and grrls.

Mastodon's new album is metal AOTY by a distance, it sounds fucking fantastic, but since Kerrang caters to MCR/Paramore/30STM/BVB shit, the backlash is understandable, even if unwarranted.

BTW, way to fucking massacre Nevermind, Kerrang, top fucking job.

Posted by Spam | September 22, 2011 4:28 PM | Reply to this

Kerrang i'm actually appalled that you'd get some terible bands to torture a Nirvana album and dare to call it a "tribute". Unless the definition of tribute has suddenly changed to "bag of shit". In which case, yet it is indeed a "Tribute".

You know, I am almost glad Kurt killed himself when he did, so he didn't have to ENDURE listening to this absolutely disgusting and frankly disrespectful covers album. I mean really...Kurt created his music out of an intense dislike of what the mainstream norm was at the time, hence why they always did their own covers in a very "take the piss" fashion.

Come on guys, you've asked some terribly fashionable bands of the moment to give their versions of these very important songs to a covers album. Where is the integrity in that?

For example, The blackout, a band that have stated they do not like Kurt Cobain, can you explain why they were asked?

Disgusting...

I have an idea for kerrang!, how about rather than having a 'covers' CD of one of the best albums ever made, we have the actual album, just a suggestion...

Well considering Kerrang! were giving these away free (with subscription) and 50p (if you bought it from a shop) I wouldn't really expect them to get Iron Maiden and Rammstein to cover them.

I really enjoyed this issue of Kerrang seeing as im a mega Nirvana fan yet when i listened to the CD i was rather disappointed. Well EXTREMELY disappointed. Some of the bands have completely ruined the classic and brilliant songs. There had to be only about two bands which i think had done a great job on covring the songs. But apart from the CD i really enjoyed reading all the interesting facts about Nirvana and Kurt Cobain himself. They did a great Job on the 20 year anniversary of Nevermind by Nirvana. (:

I understand the desire to promote music and show tribute to Nirvana, however wouldn't it have been better to provide the masses with a Nirvana album? I'm not saying a full-length cut but perhaps a single off Nevermind or something live. It's Nirvana fans who are gagging to buy this issue, I'm sure they would have appreciated that so much more than covers which are assumedly disappointing based the above comments.

Oh dear...Kerrang dont seem to be getting good comments for this CD...But just think of it this way...

Nirvana were so epic and different that no one can really cover their songs to their standard.
It just shows that Nirvana were and still are a milestone in the music era that no one can go up against

Is there any way to buy that issue of the magazine online with the CD attached?

When my son went to get it, the new magazine (Blink 182) was all that was available in the shops here.

Well........ god you lot love to scream at the editers don't you?? Yes it was a bad move putting more popy artists on the CD but think about it. The bands are trying to show their appreiation (most anyway) for the music. To be honest NO ONE ON EARTH CAN DO A COVER OF A SONG AND DO IT AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL!!

that is just a fact of life, face it, get over it. It was a disapointment and I think that they could have put some bnds in with a bit more grit in them, if you get what I mean. But maybe in 5 years time they will do a 25th and will make it better and learn from this one.

Just buy the orriginal (if you havn't got it that is, though I don't see how no one has it, my brother has two copies for some reason) and listen to the craftsmenship and magnificence of Kurt's voice and think, wow this legend is dead.

RIP Kurt.
