Metallica post first track from Lou Reed collaboration
Metallica and Lou Reed have posted The View, a track taken from their forthcoming album.
Lulu - a 10-track concept album based on two plays written by German playwright Frank Wedekind - was recorded in May and June with producers Greg Fidelman and Hal Willner.
The song has also been released as a digital download. For more details and lyrics, click here. The full album will be released on October 31.
This is really quite bad, and boring. It's surprising, however, how much better it sound when James Hetfield's Vocals arrive, and then soul crushingly disappointing when they are taken away.
This would have undoubtedly been better without Lou Reed in my opinion...

this is just mind boggling...what a waste of time for metallica fans and I mean we've been used to huge let downs from Metallica in the past but they were doing better recently only to throw it all away even worse.

i actually really like this for some wired reason.
I guess that to the metal community this work will be a disappointment, but we have to remember that this won't be a Metallica album nor a Lou Reed album, this will be a collaboration between two big parts of two different sides of rock music. This will be a kind of experimental recording so personally I'm gonna listen to it without any expectations but with an open mind.

I agree with the first comment, as a metallica fan and a metclub member i think that this track would be so much better without lou reed and if the rest of tha album is anything like this track then i dont think i will be making that purchase.

Are these guys taking the piss? What a load of crap. It was the same bloody riff over and over again - where is the incentive to listen to this song again?. Thanks for the preview as it saved my money from being pissed away on this rubbish. They might have had something to offer years ago but now they are just a bunch of boring old farts.

I think this album just needs some perspective, this song is delivered more sermon style almost and I think you need to place value on the words as a whole, and not as a catchy song.

I don't think it's quite as bad as everyone is making out?! This website is Kerrang and therefore means people who like metal/rock are going to be commenting but this isn't a metal album and it's not a Metallica album either. How about everyone just opens their minds and leaves constructive comments rather then something negative?!?!?

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH SECRET NINJA EATER....OPEN YOUR MINDS..
They've never pandered to record labels, critics, or audiences. As a result, both became musical divinities in their own right with said industry figureheads, "tastemakers", and fans following them down their respective paths. Those paths cross at Lulu. "The View" is a peek behind the curtain at what Metallica and Lou Reed are set to release on November 1st. It's a chilling dramatic display of heaviness. Reed declares, "I want to see your suicide" as an elegiac drumbeat from Lars Ulrich fumes below his voice slowly.
Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield paint sludgy distorted backdrop for Reed to cover in Lulu's blood in this voyeuristic tale of suicide and loathing. Reed's voice stands at the center of the sound as Robert Trujillo's bass rumbles calculated below. Everything kicks into thrash gear as the guitars speed up dramatically and Hetfield growls out a sinister refrain.
The rest of the song mounts into the final apocalyptic explosion from Hetfield. It's pure brutal bliss. Now, Lulu isn't Master of Puppets or The Velvet Underground & Nico; it's a dark beast of its own. This record isn't about pleasing one or both audiences. It's about crafting something dangerous, dramatic, and deep. That's what these gentlemen are best at. They've created the ultimate 21st century rock opera—soaked in blood—and it's simply because they wanted to.

You people can diss the track all you like, and as the true artists they are, neither Lou Reed nor Metallica will give a shit. Regardless of what I personally might think about the track, the fact that they're collaborating shows that their not in it for the money but for the creative kick of it, and for their own enjoyment and not to cater to conservative whiners.
More power to them.

You are obviously a paid shill for the record company. But nice try at pretending to be a real person.

I had hoped Metallica were getting back on the right track after the dreadful St Anger but this is surely them handing in their notice. Utter shite. I will be spending my money on Thirteen by Megadeth and encourage everyone else to as well. I have been a fan of both for over 20 years and only one of the bands can still cut it.

I think this was pretty cool. Metallica and lou reed are just having fun. Get over it.
Listen to Mastodon or meshuggah for cutting edge.

For me the only good bit in this song is when James Hetfield starts singing it is much easier to like then. But i do still appreciate that this is a concept album and they only wanted to have a bit of fun

I just want to kill my facking self, I listened to metallica for the first time three years ago and I realy liked them (except from some songs in load, reload and st.Anger). I thought that after death magnetic metallica will come back again with a new kickass album like kill 'em all (ok I'm very optimist, it may be difficult for metallica after all these years to make such an album but i think they could make it much better) but they are coming with this new "LULU" album, just HEAR the diference "kill "em all" and "lulu". I accept that some people like this album because they are used to this kind of music but hey we are talking about METALLICA !!! Anyway, that's all, I'm wondering what Mustaine is saing now (maybe ha,ha.ha).

I'm all for musical experimentation and progression but this.......this is just shit.
I thought after Death Magnetic they were back on track and we'd all get to see at least one more classic album from Metallica, I guess not.
At least Iron Maiden and megadeth are still releasing amazing stuff.
