TELL US ABOUT THE COFFIN-SHAPED GRAVEYARD DISCIPLE GUITAR WE'RE GIVING AWAY.
"The whole thing came about basically when Henry over at Gibson called me up one day and said, 'hey Zakk, we want to do this Hallowe'en themed guitar thing' but I told him, 'look man, Hallowe'en is more of an Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Ozzy or Marilyn Manson type thing, I'm not sure'. Basically I wasn't convinced because Black Label are more of a straight up, kick ass rock'n'roll band but I figured what the hell, Hallowe'en is good fun and what do I know about anything anyway. He asked me to come up with a guitar design idea. Traditionally I'm a Gibson / Epiphone guy to the core but I've always loved collecting interesting guitars all my life. If you and me were out in the store and we saw a cool looking guitar, whatever the make, I'd probably pick it up. I'm always checking out guitars whether they're sweet or they look like shit, like that Billy Gibbons [ZZ Top] 'Billy Bo', which is beyond fucking ugly. Then you got the big Bo Diddly guitar, which is basically a fucking box and ugly as shit. But I really dig on these old ugly fucking putrid guitars. So I was talking to our merch company Bravado one day and for Hallowe'en they were putting out these coffins filled with lollipops with song titles on them. So you had different flavours for Bleed For Me, Graveyard Disciple, Genocide Junkies, you know, all that shit? So I was looking at the coffin with the Black Label logo on it and it hit me, 'this is the guitar design right here'. Stick a neck on it and job done. Inspired by the famous Bo Diddley look, I came up with the Bo Deadly!"
THE UNCONVENTIONAL LOOK ASIDE, IT'S A PRETTY COOL GUITAR THOUGH?
"It actually plays fucking great. It plays like an SG really, it's made out of mahogany like an SG and it's got the same thickness as a Les Paul. It's maple back on the neck and a rosewood fret board. It's got EMG pick-ups on it too. It doesn't neck dive or anything like that. When you're sitting down with the leg rest on it, it sounds really sweet. I used it on the last record for some of the solos and I use it all the time live, so I'm happy to have my name on it. It's a pretty fucking killer guitar, whoever wins this thing's got themselves a really badass instrument, I'll tell you that. It feels better than a Flying V and it's cool whether you're an experienced player or you're just starting out. If you're just learning how to play on it, it would be a whole lot fucking easier to play than a Flying V as well. Plus, it's a free guitar and it's in the shape of a fucking coffin, dude. I mean, give me a fucking break, that's a fucking sick prize whatever way you cut it."
