Sum 41 forced to pull out of the Kerrang! Tour Sponsored By Relentless Energy Drink

Kerrang! regret to announce that Sum 41 have been forced to pull out of the upcoming Kerrang! Tour Sponsored By Relentless Energy Drink. The rest of the line-up remains unaffected.

Frontman Deryck Whibley has been suffering from a back injury and will not be well enough to perform on the 11-date UK and Ireland tour, which is set to kick off on February 4 at Dublin Academy.

"I feel really terrible about letting down the fans," says Deryck. "I injured my back and the doctors are saying that I could be in a wheelchair. So, as much as I wanted to be able to do it, I've got to look at reality, and for the first time I've got to listen to somebody else and not just myself. We're all really upset about this; we've had such a great relationship with our UK fans. We were really looking forward to this tour."

"Kerrang! are really gutted to lose Sum 41 from what will be an unforgettable tour," says Kerrang! Editor James McMahon. "Let's be honest, the news totally blows. However the tour must go on and we're chuffed to say we've found a more than worthy replacement. We're absolutely delighted to announce that The Blackout have offered to step up to the plate and will be taking to the stage with New Found Glory, letlive. and While She Sleeps in February."

"We're delighted to step in for Sum 41 at the last minute!" says The Blackout's co-vocalist Sean Smith. "We've played the tour once before [in 2010] and we know what a total laugh it is. But hopefully Sum 41 fans won't try and murder us! This should be a really, really great tour and we're all really excited to watch the other bands every night."

Deryck Whibley talks more about his injury and withdrawal from the tour in next week's Kerrang! [on sale January 25], while The Blackout also speak about what they've got planned for their slot.

The Kerrang! Tour Sponsored By Relentless Energy Drink dates are as follows:

February

04 Dublin Academy
05 Dublin Academy
07 Southampton Guildhall
08 Norwich UEA
10 Bristol O2 Academy
11 Cardiff University Great Hall
12 Newcastle O2 Academy
13 Glasgow O2 ABC
15 Manchester Academy
16 Birmingham O2 Academy
17 London Roundhouse

Urgh they're good but it doesn't make up for Sum41. Nothing could. People paid to see them (most I'd say). Shame. But at least you've tried to make up for it.

Anyone want two brum tickets?

The Blackout did the tour in 2010 with All Time Low didn't they?

I'll be expecting a full refund. I didn't pay to see NFL and the Blackout. I was only going for Sum 41.

Also, this is the second time I've had tickets to see them and they've pulled out. Worst luck ever.

You'll not get a refund, the gig is still going ahead so you have no reason for one. Plenty of people will be looking for a ticket now that TBO are playing. As much as so many douches will disagree, TBO are a very worthy replacement and just because they aren't your cup of tea doesn't mean they aren't big or good enough for this.

Eurgh! How on earth did you think the blackout was a worthy replacement? This was about for most of us I'd imagine two bands we grew up with songs that reminds us of when we were younger! Now its just gonna be full of stupid little scene kids that will not be appreciative of this. You have disappointed me kerrang anyone but the blackout.

Posted by thea | January 20, 2012 11:56 AM | Reply to this

Gutted, only bought my ticket to see Sum 41. Kerrang should offer a refund as the advertised line-up has changed, people bought their tickets based on that assumption (well those who bought to see Sum 41). Not going to go now, as I have no interest in the other bands (don't care for NFG and I've seen the Blackout enough times, good but not what I paid for)

A co-headline tour where one of the headliners pull out, if people want their money back they just be given it back. I don't mind the blackout but the amount of time I've been waiting to see Sum 41.

I'll still be going for letlive.

At leas they managed to find a replacement do close to the tour beginning! And for everyone whining about Sum41 not being there-would you want Deryck to risk his health just for you ungrateful bitches? Have a little respect, Jesus.

Posted by Becky | January 20, 2012 12:33 PM | Reply to this

how can TBO be a worthy replacement??? theyre nothing like Sum 41, so now the pop-punky type of show that was promoted and people brought tickets for has totally changed dynamics.

THIS FUCKING BLOWS. think i will be selling my manc ticket now....

Posted by Leah | January 20, 2012 12:49 PM | Reply to this

Ive seen sum 41 3 times before and they're amazingly good live. But I was attending this for New found glory, sum 41 were a bonus. The Blackout as a "replacement" is just pure ridiculous. They could have got another pop-punk sort of band. Off the top of my head.. Zebrahead, Bowling for soup, less than jake. Essentially anyone that isn't The Blackout. Truly awful band. I'll still be going as me and the gf love NFG. I just hope that Blackout aren't now classed as a co-headliner and NFG get a longer set..

Posted by Greg | January 20, 2012 12:56 PM | Reply to this

I will be seeking legal advice if they do not offer a refund for this. Tickets were advertised and bought in respect to the original line up and now that it's changed everyone is entitled to refund the product.
The blackout are terrible live and sum 41 was a huge reason why most were planning on attending.

Posted by Harold | January 20, 2012 12:59 PM | Reply to this

Where do I find out about how to get a refund?

I paid to see Sum41 not The Blackout, they are one of the worst bands I have ever had the dis pleasure of both seeing live and meeting, go home Sean Smith your not wanted here!

Grrrr

Posted by Chris | January 20, 2012 1:00 PM | Reply to this

the blackout played 2 years ago, and they werent headliner material then. and they never will be, what a crud of a band to replace sum 41. i think we all should be given a refund!!!!!!!!!!! worst line-up ever

Posted by Em | January 20, 2012 1:07 PM | Reply to this

The BLACKOUT as a replacement?! What the hell is that about? Fair enough, Sum41 had to pull out (God bless them) but to replace them with a band that nobody likes, that are terrible live and have a very small fan base is just ridiculous! So many people have paid to see Sum41 at least replace them with someone at the same legendary level or standard. It just looks like Kerrang are trying to budget. Kerrang are going to lose a lot of faith from fans. The demographic for sales was pop punk, everyone who bought tickets were people who like bands like Sum41, and now putting a COMPLTELY different sounding band instead of them has probably p***ed off everyone who bought a ticket.

The Blackout are a brilliant band, people need to realise that Sum 41 pulled out last minute and most bands schedules are pretty full so they are lucky to have found someone so close to the tour. If you are that big a fan of Sum 41 you'd be understanding and realise that not everyone was going just for them. The blackout are a worthy replacement and work really hard for their fans so maybe show a bit of respect?

not being funny, I really like the blackout but they are not worthy of replacing sum 41 no matter how many times people say it. Sum 41 are another level compared to the blackout

Posted by matt | January 20, 2012 1:23 PM | Reply to this

I have always hated kerrang & the support the magazine & channel give to mostly crap bands that are popular & overrated. The only reason for attending this tour is New found glory. Now the blackout have been announced i really would prefer not to go. i will be arriving as late as possible to avoid as much of the show as i can because the line up is a shambles & thinking the blackout are a worthy band to replace sum 41 is ridiculous. Kerrang doing what they do best & try thrust the same shit in peoples faces. The blackout, mcr, paramore etcetcetc.
There are so many bands out there i'm pretty sure someone better would have been available. My excitment for this show is purely NFG based but i will be watching from the bar because to cope with the rest of the line up i will need to be blind drunk.
There are so many good, decent bands with a huge following & loyal fan base that have got there without being plastered all over this awful magazine and they sell out tours & make amazing music. Everything kerrang stands for annoys me & this announcement has only proven that. I hope they read these comments and actually pay attention to the opinions of readers/haters. This was a stupid idea & completely off the radar. If you have a band like NFG & Sum41 headlining, at least replace them with someone that are of the same genre, fan base & not someone who will be boo'd & most likely bottled as always.
Kerrang are & have been for most of their career a shambles. Their annual tours have always been & this one, other then the headline, have just proven it.
Absolutely fuming.

Got to say that i agree with Hannah, im going for NFG as me n the mrs adore them. Sum 41 were a bonus. (seen 3 times already) to replace a band with such a high calibre as sum 41 with the utter dire horrificness at the blackout is just pure stupid. At least now, NFG are actually headlining and are getting a longer stage time. There's so many bands that could have took this slot. For Christ sake, I'd rather have had KIGH or YM@6 and I don't particularly like either of them.

Posted by Greg | January 20, 2012 1:45 PM | Reply to this

i can happily say, this is bullshit; ill happily still go to see letlive, while she sleeps and NFG, but the blackout in replace of sum 41? - in fairness theyre OK, but id have just given the 3 bands longer sets.

Posted by Adam Twd | January 20, 2012 1:46 PM | Reply to this

I think we should be entitled to refund as for some of us older mob in our 30's we were just going for NFG and Sum41. Can't be arsed to sit through the rest for a short nfg set. REFUND REFUND.

Firstly, I'm not mad that Sum41 pulled out of the Kerrang tour, the fact that he could be in a wheelchair is good enough reason for anyone to pull out of doing a couple of gigs.
What I am mad at is that Kerrang didn't consult any of their fan base about what band to substitute and frankly considering people bought tickets for the two punk rock bands that were headlining the show, it seems like a pretty dumb decision to put a band who are not of that genre in the slot.
The fact that refunds are not being offered after an obviously controversial change has been made to the bill shows how willing Kerrang are to fuck over it's fan base, who keeps them in business to make money.

Posted by RhysKinsey | January 20, 2012 3:40 PM | Reply to this

Kerrang could not have chosen a crapper band to replace sum 41.

i got tickets when they went on sale and i love tbo as much as sum 41. i agree with the fact that people went to see sum 41, cos i did and the blackout aren't as popular as sum 41 obviously but at least they stepped up unlike other bands. fair enough that you don't like them but don't say they don't have a fanbase when they quite clearly do......

Posted by Jess | January 20, 2012 4:11 PM | Reply to this

All tickets will say line-up is subject to change so you won't be entitled to a refund.

TBO aren't the best replacement as I do agree it was about having a bit of nostalgia from the old days but they do put on a savage live show.

And @Daniel Melia, a guitarist in a wheelchair is one thing, but the frontman in a wheelchair would be fucking dull

I will be expecting at least a half priced refund. I only bought this ticket to see sum 41, admitedly i dont want to not turn up to the event, because I've now geared myself up for it. MONEY NEEDS TO MAKE IT MY WAY AND SHARPISH BECAUSE I AM THOROUGHLY PISS.
(gutted about deryck tho :( gws!)

Posted by callum | January 20, 2012 4:38 PM | Reply to this

Will everyone stop getting so butthurt about this, you have no right to call them a shit band or whatever, I've seen The Blackout 5 times, and every single time they blow me away.
Just because you don't like a band, doesn't automatically make them shite, if you were only going to see Sum 41 then you're just going to have to suck it up and deal with it. Sell your tickets, and move on. It's not Deryck's fault his back is fucked, I'm sure he was gutted when he found out he couldn't tour.
Honestly, I think The Blackout will do great on headlining. I never got the chance to see them at the K! Tour '10, so I'm certainly looking forward to this date.

Totally gutted! Already seen NFG twice in the space of a year so wouldn't be that fussed if they'd pulled out but I've waited years to see Sum 41! Fair enough these things happen - already happened to the Alkaline Trio shows from November - but at least have the decency to replace them with a band of Sum 41's calibre - maybe MxPx or something, I don't know so don't bite my head off, but at least someone from the pop-punk era. Seetickets have been phoned and refund on the way. For anyone else worried about refunds you'll get one no bother. Seriously disappointed in Kerrang.

without sum41 ill happily stay at home and waste my tickets than go an see the other shit bands

Posted by ned | January 20, 2012 5:09 PM | Reply to this

sorry kerrang, but this is just ridiculous. i payed money to see Sum 41 and NFG, two (pop) punk bands, and was gonna just sit through the screamo bullshit that was before them. i'm not pissed off with Sum 41 cause there's nothing they could do about it. i'm just pissed off with you.

To call the blackout a worthy replacement to then go and say that they volunteered to play is fucked up. I don't want to see the blackout! I've seen them support MCR and, well, i didn't have fun. I don't know any of their songs, and don't want to.

If I wanted to see the blackout I would have gone to one of the London shows on their millions of tours they've had in the last few years.

Gotta be honest it seems that k! just bum the blackout... they played the fest 2 years ago, why have them again? Sum 41 haven't played a UK tour in ages (well, as opposed to the blackout anyway). I've had these tickets booked since the day they went on sale and want a refund.

Where do I go now?

I think this is terrible, its understandable why sum 41 had to pull out and hope deryck gets well soon. But come on the blackout to replace them :(.Sum 41 are pop-punk and actually make awesome songs,The blackout are not worthy of replacing them when they are not the same genre or league as The mighty Sum 41!

Although I'm not going to this year's tour, this is pretty shit news. I grew up listening to both NFG, and although I'm not a massive Sum 41 fan, to have them replaced by a mediocre band who don't even fall in the same genre is stupid. It would have made more sense to have put together a shortlist of bands that were feasible to play the tour at short notice and then let people vote. Unlucky.

Ah stop moaning. Anyone whos got tickets gets to see one of the best live bands of today and in my opinion ever. The Blackout. The blackout are great live, they put loads of energy into every performance and they never disappoint. I've seen them 4 times and i was hoping to see them for a 5th now but all the tickets are gone at the shows i could have gone to. And quit complaining that sum 41 aren't playing.Would you rather your beloved Deryck ended up with a severe back injury because he had to play to you ungrateful lot? Anyway,m does anyone know if the blackout are replacing as co headliners or whether they'll be playing first or what?

Refund!
Not because Sum41 have pulled out, but the sheer average s*ite that has been brought in to replace them.
This is shocking, the Blackout are really not that good. What they do, a 1000 bands also do, and are better at it.
This is stupid! If it wasn't for kerrang trying to force feed this crap to over-influential kids, not one person would give a crap about this average crock of crap. Kerrang just sells snow to eskimos.

so much happier for blackout, sum 41 are utter shite and they sound awful live! i really didn't wanna go to this tour and now tbo are there i'm really excited. anyone complaining has obviously not seen tbo before and they put on an amazing live show.

Robbie, grow up! Blackout sound the same as 1000 other average "rock / pop" bands.

First off as a true Sum 41 fan since the late 90s I wish Deryck a healthy recovery and I understand why they had to pull out.

However I am pissed at Kerrang for bringing in a group that I have never heard of before. Just look up some of their music and its not what I'm into ( I won't say their shit cos we all have different tastes). Therefore I will now be selling my ticket not only cos I now want my money back. I paid for goods that I now won't be receiving. But I don't fancy going to something that I now won't enjoy.

Posted by Kari | January 20, 2012 6:19 PM | Reply to this

Litterally the only reason I'm still going is because I've booked train tickets and a hotel room, spent so much just to see this band, whatever people say, The Blackout are not as big as Sum 41 or as good.

when this tour was announced i nearly shit myself with excitement, two of my favourite ever bands co-headlining. i saw sum 41 on the eastpak tour in 2010 and they were awesome live, and NFG always put on a sick show.

i can appreciate the fact that there isn't long until the tour starts, but surely you can find a better band than the blackout to fill the slot? yellowcard jumps to mind

I'm not annoyed with Sum 41, there was nothing they could do and I hope Deryck gets well too.

Secondly, before I start ranting, I do like the Blackout.

But come the fuck on, replacing a pop punk band of legendary status with The Fucking Blackout? Are you for real? At least get us someone of fucking headline material! So pissed off and the only reason I'm still going is to see New Found Glory.

The Blackout are good but they are not Sum 41, the least you could've done is replaced them with a band in the same fucking genre. Royally pissed off now, I did not pay to see The Blackout.

Posted by John T | January 20, 2012 6:56 PM | Reply to this

This sucks,Sum 41 is one of the biggest, most popular pop-punk acts in the world. Millions of fans, millions of hits on youtube...and you replace them with The Blackout. A bigger band should have been called to replace Sum 41...it's just uneven and I think most people are displeased. It's not just Sum 41,it's New Found Glory aswell, another definitive pop punk act that have been around for years and years...how long have The Blackout been around for,how many have they influenced? It's just a terrible choice and If they're playing last,I'm leaving early.

sum 41 suck balls, wss and letlive and the blackout , great lineup , nfg can fuck off too

Posted by ciaran | January 20, 2012 8:07 PM | Reply to this

I am sorry but you cannot hate on The Blackout for this. You may not like them and that's fine but it can't have been easy to find a band to fill in 2 weeks before the tour. It's easy to say they should have put other bands on the line-up but how do you know they didn't try?
For sure if they had cancelled 6 months in advanced then maybe someone more appropriate would have been chosen but this is TWO WEEKS, it's not easy for American bands to drop everything they're doing and fly over at the click of a finger for a 10-date UK tour.
Sorry about the rant.

i originally went to see sum. but if they have to pull out for medical reasons, fine. they'll tour again. but the blackout are also a band that you can have a blast with, nfg are great, let live are good and so are while she sleeps. i'm still going to go. long live Deryck!

Posted by aiden | January 20, 2012 8:43 PM | Reply to this

tbf the people saying you should of got this or that other band, bands are doing their own thing and cant just go yeah sure we can play at the drop of the hat BUT surely it shows how much the blackout blow that they were so readily available.
I say give letlive longer and my band will open the show bumping everyone up a bit haha

Hey kerrang, i'm in a punk band. Im free for all those dates and actually play the kind of style that was selling tickets for this years kerrang tour, we cant play much but its better than whatever shit 13 year old girls seem to orgasm over that the blackout will be playing!

I agree we shouldnt be angry at them for this incident, this is against kerrang and a fatal misjudgement, NFG are a huge band and could easily do a normal tour set and i bet people would still be upset for deryck and sum but wouldnt be half as pissed as they are now!

Thanks to you kerrang not only will i want a full refund (or at least half), but you'll get a band who didnt ask for it, a whole bunch of abuse from betrayed punks and would not be surprised if the gigs turned into massive brawls!

I understand if Sum 41 had to pull out, but who chose the Blackout? That's an absolutely dreadful decision and it changes the whole atmosphere of the gig. People bought tickets to see some old-school pop-punk and they just don't fit the bill... literally.

If I bought Formula 1 tickets and turned up to see a push-bike race, I'd be pretty hacked off.

Everyone trying to sell tickets on here, or facebook, or wherever... before you do that, try asking for refunds. If we all ask for our money back, Kerrang might realise what a huge mistake they've made, and either a) give it back, or b) get a new band to play!!

Gutted to have wasted money to travel 50 miles to now watch a "headline act" I didn't bother buying tickets for when they came to my own home town!!! Will probably sell my tickets now. The Blackout are ok just not my thing. I wanted pop punk. Loads of more suitable replacements out there surely to god one of them was free??? Lost prophets, Simple Plan, Jimmy eat world, Day to remember, Offspring, BFS (awesome live), panic! @ the disco bit more pop but again brilliant live, Patrick Stump from FOB he supported P!@TD on a US tour recently. I'd even have settled for bloody All Time Low or YM@6. The king of pop punk Mark Hoppus is living in the UK surely he could have fixed you up with someone of the same genre as Sum 41. Shame as I love NFG but can't be a***d standing through 2 hours of screaming cr@p I don't like to hear them do a half hour stint! Sum 41 should never have committed to this tour, seems like a scam after they backed out of dates late last year for same reason!

i am going now because of the blackout i am not a sum41 fan so this is good news kerrang were going to upset fans whoever they chose to replace sum41 so dont hate on them, hate on the fact shit happens, i have bought festival weekend tickets to be told on the day that the bands i only went to see aren't playing. it sucks but that is life.

Posted by lorna | January 21, 2012 1:47 PM | Reply to this

Fucking hell you bunch of moaning fags!! Man up and deal with the fact sum 41 aren't there.. the blackout are personally my favourite band so i know they'll put on a good show, they always do. Selling your tickets is pathetic, yeah they're not like sum 41, and they're not trying to be. Kerrang, you couldn't have picked a better replacement in my opinion, well done!

Posted by Becca | January 21, 2012 2:05 PM | Reply to this

FACT: Sum 41 are shit live, but a lot of people definiltey bought tickets because they love their music and want to be able to tick them off their 'To See' list- I know I did.
FACT: Blackout are very good live, but they are not my cup of tea.
FACT: Even the biggest Blackout fan has to admit that they are not a worthy replacement. They are the same size roughly as WSS and LetLive, than they are to Sum41 and NFG.
Bands that would've been suitable replacements in size and genre and realistically could probably get if they aren't already touring at this time:
NoFX, Rancid, zebrahead, Four Year Strong. Bands like Green Day and blink would be similar in genre, but it's unrealistic to get them doing O2 academy's etc lol. And I saw someone mention YM@6 earlier- GTFO.

I mentioned YM@6 earlier I didn't say I wanted to see them, I said I'd rather see them than the Blackout. I have tickets to see Black Veil Brides FFS do you honestly think YM@6 are my thing????? And as for Green Day playing on this tour ha ha ha ha ha ha ha - wake up and smell the coffee, they fill stadiums not shitty wee ex cinemas and dance halls. That's by far that most unrealistic and deluded suggestion for a replacement yet. Hell lets get the Foo Fighters!!!!

Yes, it is disappointing that Sum 41 have had to drop out, but the fact that Deryck is trying to avoid being in a wheelchair is a pretty good justification for not touring don't you think?

And quite frankly. I think all the f*ck bags whinging about TBO should be damn well grateful that Sum 41 weren't replaced by Black Veil Brides!

Plus NFG are still playing.......awesome!

Lighten up you miserable shites!

Posted by Charlie | January 21, 2012 5:48 PM | Reply to this

firstly ......GROW UP!!!
SUM41 have pulled out due to illness, hardly their or Kerrangs fault
2nd if you were only going to see SUM41 then sell your ticket and quit whining! youll prob get more then you paid anyway
3rd if you dont like the bands playing DONT GO!!
4th TBO are amazing live, have worked really hard to get where they are, and atleast they are willing to fill in at such short notice. maybe some other,, similar bands were asked and refused for whatever reason, it could have been worse, it could have been cahse & status (yes that is a dig at the download lineup)

I am a fan of SUM41 and was really excited to see them, probably been listening to them since you were all like 5, and yeah im disappointed, but i still wanna see NFG and am sooooo excited to see the blackout!

The blackout are a fantastic live act and perform better than they sound on album

you are entitled to a refund as long as it is the headline act that is unable to perform

Posted by Joe | January 21, 2012 10:33 PM | Reply to this

Excuse me, but New Found Glory are not shit. They're one of the best bands I've ever had the privilege to listen to. It's awful that Sum 41 have to drop out but these things happen. They're genuinely upset.
Mind your spelling.
Have a nice day.

i wonder how many people are gonna get pummled by blackout fans? trust me from experience thats not fun!!! WHY SO VIOLENT?!

Just a heads up, o2 Academy Birmingham mentioned on their facebook page that you can get refunds from point of purchase, meaning all of the AMG venues will be the same.

Now instead of posting your phone numbers on here, and whining like little kids, pick up the phone, phone ticketweb or the venue, and get a refund, go spend it, and get on with your friggin lives....

Why hate on the blackout? It isn't their fault that Deryck hurt his back. All of you saying that they aren't worthy to replace them need to shut up, just because you don't like them doesn't mean they're not worthy.

The blackout are much better live than on albums. also its not their fault sum 41cant play and its not Derycks fault he hurt his back... it cant have been easy to step in for them last minute . I'm disappointed because I love sum 41 and was extremely disappointed they couldn't play but I haven't taken it out on the blackout

@SamG
You, sir, are retarded.
I clearly stated Green Day wouldn't play O2 Academies etc, my point for them was genre and fan base. I have seen them many times and they are above Kerrang Tour.
I also wasn't referring to anyone mentioning YM@6 on this page, it was on a seperate blog I saw linked by Google.
If you wish to reply to me, in future read carefully and construct a well-thought argument, rather than argue with something you:
A) Agreed with
and
B) Had nothing to do with
Good day.

You're all fools, The Blackout are a great band and truly worthy of playing this gig, especially at such short notice. Yeah, most people are gutted that Sum 41 aren't playing, but what is the sense whining like little bitches about it. Nobody really cares that you think The Blackout are terrible, if you are really such huge Sum 41 fans then there will be plenty of opportunities to see them in the future if you so please. On another note, there will be loads of people willing to pay at least face value for any tickets you're looking to sell. Stop being douches. Get over yourselves.

some of you fail to see that you cant just "get" a band to play, the placeout steped in, to book bigger bands you have to fill in lots of forms and most bands want it done MONTHS in advance so saying they could have got anyway is kind of foolish, this line up was most likey booked 6-7 months ago
so to find a headliner of the same size and type is asking alot, just think you still have NFG to see, and atlest you get a show brixton 2009 was cancelled completly and all asking for refunds the ticket or ticket office allways say "LINE UP SUBJECT TO CHANGE" so you cant get a refund as 1 od the 2 headliners are still playing, sell your ticket to some one who wants it or jsut go and enjoy yourself

Dude, grow some fucking balls! Seeking legal advice because they wont offer a refund. You sir, are a joke.

And I don't know why all of you are moaning. Yeah one of the headlining bands had to pull out, but to be fair to Kerrang, they managed to find a replacement pretty fast, and The Blackout are a class band. I know they aren't Pop-Punk like Sum, but they put on a hell of a good show and every gig they've been apart of, they have managed to get the crowd moving.

~Rant over :)

Yehaa, a second rate band have been replaced by a class act, so glad I have the tickets now, I was going to take my IPOD to keep me entertained while SUM 41 were on, now I don't have to bother

Posted by Dave | January 23, 2012 3:27 AM | Reply to this

I have to laugh at Kerrang's editor James McMahon who quoted "We are lucky to have the blackout playing they are a MORE THAN WORTHY replacement for Sum41" . . . ARE YOU F***ING kidding me! The Blackout are not even worthy enough to lick sh*t off the curb. Sean Smith is a disgrace to music and Kerrang what happened, Did the blackout randomly happen to be in your office when the news came in or could you not be bothered to find a decent band to replace Sum41. Utter pathetic.

Posted by Andy | January 23, 2012 11:55 AM | Reply to this

Sum 41 are one of my favourite bands. I have seen tonnes of bands in my years and they are easily one of the best. One of the best and most fun shows you can go to (I've seen them 3 times now). This is some of the most depressing news of 2012.

I really like The Blackout. Seen them about 5 times cause they're British and have toured loads here but they ARE NOT in the same league as Sum 41 by a long shot. The Blackout for The Sums is not a equal swap I'm afraid.

On the plus side NFG are still headlining and they're pretty awesome too so not all is lost.

I really hope Deryck's back gets better. Was afraid I'd miss them last time because of this but they solidered on. But at what cost??? Rest up Deryck!

Posted by Theo | January 23, 2012 1:41 PM | Reply to this

Unfortunate that Sum 41 had to pull out, couldn't be helped. However pretty poor choice in replacement. I understand it's difficult to replace a band at such short notice and it's a high profile spot I'm sure the Blackout were more than eager to snap up. But the fact remains this was billed as a pop punk joint headline venture, actually gearing towards Kerrang's slightly older readers/gig-goers and by picking a band so different in genre and age has alienated a large portion of the audience who paid to see the advertised bands. True you can get refunds and yes the old adage 'lineup subject to change' is always there as a failsafe, but in future try a little harder Kerrang. I sense now there will either be pretty empty venues til 9pm or so when New Found Glory hit the stage or a massive queue at the bar during the first three acts.

Thanks :) Also, I respect that people wanted to go for Sum41 and are dissapointed that they have pulled out, but seriously guys? Calm down, it's a band at the end of the day, and you need to calm down. Personally, I'm overwhelmed that The Blackout are playing, they are my favourite band, and I'm so happy that I get to see them again. But yeah, if anyone has a spare ticket for NORWICH UEA, I'd appreciate it.

The blackout for gods sake. They are a terrible band. I had the misfortune of seeing them a few months ago. I thought I give them a chance but greatly regretted it. They are just a boy band who play screamo bullshit. The crowed was just full of screaming little girls shouting ‘oh my god’ every two seconds. Kerrang you are idiots……

Tell ya, My son (14 years of age) is crazy about SUM 41. I live in Holland and I got tickets to surprise him. Also got a flight to Dublin which have cost me about € 200,--. Big hassle with shool too.

I realize; shit happens but my son (and I) we were going for SUM.
And what should i do now?Going to the |James Joyce museum....?

They also backed out on their concert here in the Philippines last year because of an 'injury'.

They need to learn how to take care of themselves more or they'll disappoint more fans in the future.

Maybe they should take a 'rest'.

Showing my age, but I remember Symposium year's ago playing Brixton with No DOubt and The Vandals. First night Ross jumps off drum riser in first song, breaks his leg, passes out. Set over... gutted! Second night, Ross in motorised wheelchair performs. Quality. Maybe different given Ross sang only, and didn't play guitar and it was one night rather than a full UK tour but would have been memorable for Sum 41 to dig out a wheelchair. I remember Jason from A performing sitting on a stool in Maidstone Union Bar years back too due to broken foot or something similar.

SUM 41 are rapidly becoming unbookable, they've out of more shows than they've played in recent years. Has beens. The Blackout are up and coming, talented, British and always put on a cracking show. They thrive on audiences that are out for blood and I expect a total apology from you all when in 3 weeks time youre all converted. Suck my balls.

Well, after umm-ing & ahh-ing over getting a ticket or not, I have just bought one upon hearing that The Blackout are playing in Sum 41's stead. Don't get me wrong, I love Sum 41, but I saw Blackout live twice last year, once at an arena, and once at a festival, so the chance to see them in a more intimate indoor venue is VERY appealing!

Bitching about the Blackout not being good enough is ridiculous. Amazing live band. Sum 41 are amazing aswell. Just because they are very different bands doesn't mean there no good.

have 2 tickets for london roundhouse for sale if anyone wants?

Posted by Kevin | February 10, 2012 8:17 PM | Reply to this

I currently have 4 tickets for the London (17th) show that i am looking to get rid of, as we were only intereseted in Sum...

Only problem is I'm coming from Norway, so the tickets i have to pick up personally at the box office.

I have already paid for the tickets that I am not gonna use anyway and am not looking to scam anyone...

So basically; the first person that mails me at: ivaroftedal [@] live.com will get 4 free tickets to the kerrang show in london, and we could arrange meeting then.

I assure you that this is not a fake or anything, I just don't want the tickets to go to waste.

Soooo.... contact me.

Ive been reading through these comments and you all blame kerrang for sum 41 cancelling, although it isnt the first time! anyone thought that they are to blame and couldnt care less about letting fans down? Dont know why anyone supports them! They obviously arent worthy of their fans! The blackout have enough followers to replace them and wont let their fan base down. Enough said!

We only booked for this as Sum 41 were headlining. If Kerrang won't refund tickets because they've got another band to replace them what's to stop any promoter advertising a gig with a well-known band and then saying they've cancelled but we've got this one nobody's heard of but the gigs still on so we'll keep your money. I'm sick of this greedy behaviour. Also they did know about the bad back for the last year.

Firstly, get well soon, Deryck. God bless you.
Secondly, I'm kinda relieved that they cancelled it, cause - I was in 2 minds, whether to buy the tickets or not, and especially since I had coursework, I decided to let it pass. But now that Sum41 are not playing, I don't feel like I've lost out/missed out. Again, get well soon Deryck! :)

@Sum41Fan, I disagree, both Sum41 and The Blackout suck equally.

In fact, just by listening to them makes you suck, that's the level of suckage we're dealing with here.
