Billie Joe Armstrong checks into rehab

Green Day have confirmed that frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has checked into rehab.

A statement on the band's official website, posted on September 23, read: "Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse. We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. We regretfully must postpone some of our upcoming promotional appearances."

The announcement refers to an onstage incident that occured on September 21, when Billie took exception to being told that his band had only one more minute of stage time. The frontman launched into an X-rated rant before smashing his guitar and leaving the stage.

Kerrang! would like to wish Billie all the best at this time.

I don't understand why Green Day are apologising! They had their set from an agreed 45 minutes to 20 minutes to accommodate fucking Usher! No wonder BJ lost the rag!

Billie Joe is in the best place to be able to make a recovery. He is someone I have always looked up to and if he is having problems then being strong enough to admit them is the best thing he can do. I hope that he finds a way to beat this through the rehab and that he makes a full and speedy recovery. My thoughts are with him, his family and the band. x

Dont believe he has gone to rehab. This is a desperate attempt by GD mgmt at damage limitation. American tv and radio is still ultra conservative when it comes to exploding with explicit language they'll find it difficult to get back on radio playlists and tv shedules. But FUCK them BJA said what needed to be said. And restored my faith in the Band that they aren't just a band that just want to sell records.

Ugh. It was all Usher's fault. Stupid bastard thinks he can cut into a show that was supposed to be 45 minutes just because he wanted to spread around his shitty music. Billie Joe was right to act up like he did. I hope he gets better soon <3
