Kerrang! is saddened to report the death of a Linkin Park fan in South Africa, following an incident prior to the band's appearance in Cape Town on November 7.
Authorities report that 20 fans were injured at the Cape Town Stadium after heavy winds caused the collapse of an advertising structure outside the venue shortly before 7pm local time.
The City of Cape Town released a statement saying: "The City's emergency services, including doctors, paramedics and disaster risk management staff assisted immediately.
"The injured were treated on scene and have been taken to nearby hospitals for further medical attention.
"The remainder of the structure was dismantled and the commanding officer at the Venue Operations Centre declared the event site safe shortly afterwards."
The show went ahead as planned, with Linkin Park only finding out of the accident later in the evening. They took to their official Facebook page to express their "deep sadness and concern for those injured, and our heartfelt condolences to the family of the fan who died as a result of her injuries."
