Another crap issue!

And yet another with the same old "bands" in again ... YMAS, BVB, Lostprophets, every single week.

I thought Kerrang was meant to be a music magazine, not a teen heart throb/poser magazine!

Posted by stu | November 27, 2012 11:18 AM | Reply to this

overlooking the bvb and ymas crap, its a pretty good issue, with enter shikari, woe is me, miss may i, pierce the veil, and sleeping with sirens there is some good bands in this issues just get rid of the ones who are complete crap.

BVB is not crap. Just because they have a legion of fan girls does not mean they are crap. It means the opposite actually.

Okay, just slightly over-rated then ...

OMG! Black Veil Brides are the most inspirational band out there.. i dont know about you, but they have made me realise that lifes too short to give a crap about what people think about you...

There are a lot of inspirational bands out there that never get a mention in the pages of Kerrang, those are the ones that need more recognition

Posted by stu | November 27, 2012 3:39 PM | Reply to this

Let's be honest, you can keep commenting and commenting about how much you hate seeing Paramore, YM@S, Lostprophets, BVB etc. in Kerrang!, but the fact remains that as long as they are getting loads of young girls buying them, that's the way it's going to stay.

We all know that BVB has a lot of fangirls, and that's where it's getting all it's money from. If it actually put good bands in here, it would get much less buys because unfortunately, only a minority of us have good taste. I mean, look at the trash that's in the music charts at the moment: Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, One Direction. It's all a load of crap, and yet it's where the music industry is getting all it's money from.

So, can we please just stop our instigating with the little girls, and let them claim about a band being inspirational until they actually grow up and learn the difference between actual music and androgynous men singing about their shitty lives. They will learn one day.

Cant wait to buy this issue. I love Black Veil Brides both for their music and the members, and the prize involving Young Guns sounds fantastic :D

Posted by Hayles | November 27, 2012 6:34 PM | Reply to this

@Ella,
I completely agree! I'm most definitely not a fan of BVB, YM@6, Paramore, etc., but Kerrang! are selling issues by featuring them, therefore they're not gonna stop. We just have to put up with them talking about bands we don't like. There are other music magazines, there's no point coming here and slagging Kerrang! off for doing something that makes them money. Stop complaining and deal with it. If you don't wanna read about it/buy it, don't, no one's forcing you!

Im not gonna complain about BVB on the cover again- no doubt every body else will do so. But its a sad sign of the times to see Deftones not making the cover shot, despite releasing yet another well deserved 5K album recently.
A few years ago, they would have graced the cover easily , and anybody reading the magazine for over 5 years- not a lot of people on here, I realise,- will know that Deftones used to be cover stars all the time--- for the brilliant music they make, not because some pretty-boy appeal like All time Low, and a lot of others out there.

Bands like All time Low are a band that Kerrang knows damn well sells issues even though they release far inferior music than other top bands that dont make the cover anymore.

@stu
I come here just to read your comments, fuckin hilarious and so danm true.

I gave up buying Kerrang! avout 6 months ago, best thing ever. Rocksound is a proper magazine. I wish the quality of Kerrang! would improve as i miss it. The only way to make a change is to just stop buying the magazine. Eventually their sales will drop and theyll have to change. I definitely think that talented new bands such as LTA, Don Broco and Enter Shikari should be mentioned more. Im shit sick of YMAS, ATL, Paramore, MCR etc. because they just aint as good as other bands such as The Gaslight Anthem, Twin Atlantic etc. Come on fangirls, show me what you got!!!

only buying this issue for the posters

To be honest, I love all bands that get featured in Kerrang!
I am one of the few kids at my school who actually listen to good music and don't listen to all that Justin Bieber and 1D shit.
Yes, they should feature a bigger variety of bands but I gotta say this looks like an awesome issue. Like, come on, guitar lessons and tips from Slash and Biffy Clyro?! That's fucking epic!!
So guys, enjoy the magazine for what it is and don't complain. :)

Why is everyone talking down on the BVB? I love them. I listen to them all the time and I'm not some prepubescent fan girl. I just enjoy the music. Their really good and they deserve the extra press. Yeah Deftones has precedence because they've paid more dues and been around longer, but that's just a given. BVB are the fledglings still, so let them feed for a bit.

Posted by Eva | November 27, 2012 11:55 PM | Reply to this

Again? Really Kerrang? This is the 8th cover they've had in the period of six months & it's starting to get really tiresome. I really think you are capable of putting out good issues now & again but I haven't seen one since Slipknot were last on the cover.

Even the BVB fans must admit that they are getting way too much coverage in comparison to everyone else?

The whole demographic for the magazine started to shift around a year ago when pop punk groups started appearing on the cover, which was fine until it was happening on a weekly basis & replacing all the other rock/metal acts. The whole maagzine took a dive in terms of quality, content and journalism. I can't take an issue seriously when OMG LOLZ XD is actually used, frequently by your "professional" writing staff. The complaints voiced here are 100% accurate in assuming you are trying to sell the magazine to teenage girls, well done Kerrang you did it, but at what cost?

What happens when BVB are no longer the band of the month, what happens when YM@6 split up? You have no loyal readers to fall back on because they are all gone, off to better magazines who actually have varied band coverage.

Remember when you put the Gaslight Anthem on the cover when nobody know them but you wanted to give them a chance? That was amazing, you need to do more stunts like that rather than playing it safe every week. The mentality of "oh, BVB will sell well, let's have them every fortnight in the mag" won't hold up forever, people will get bored, angry & look elsewhere.

Consider my subscrition that has been running for 8 years cancelled, I'm tired of rubbish issue after rubbish issue.

Wow.... I just don't understand why the fuck deftones aren't on the cover? Iv'e been reading kerrang since 2008 and yes they did used to have the same bands on the cover alot back then too
But Not this much! it was a different variety of bands
What used to save Kerrang were the posters and now.... i can't think of a poster special i actually liked this year...
I don't hate bvb, Ymas or mcr i actually quite like them but Please Change the record Kerrang! Don broco, Deftones Lower than atlantis, Every time i die and your demise put out Blindingly good albums this year stick them on the cover?
Naa just stick Bvb on again So it'l sell
Wankers.

i hate BVB but no one's forcing me to buy this shit excuse of an issue.

Posted by ymashayma | November 28, 2012 5:59 PM | Reply to this

Bvb are so overrated, the posters are good, the reason it's these ones is because of uk warped and ptv and sws are trying to make it big in the uk. These are the bands that are selling the magazine but black veil brides are too overrated with their bad music, it's not even about the band anymore it's just about andy.

Alex=== Well said, mate.

Im not trying to sound like an old fart here by saying "Oh, the magazine isnt as good as it once was", but Im glad to see other people out there share the opinion that Ive chipped in here over the weeks.

Youve been reading the mag for 8 years? Thats nothing, man- Ive been reading it for almost `18 years!!!!
Ive seen some trends, bands come and go, but as you rightfully said, in recent times, the mag is playing it too safe by putting the same old shite on the cover week after week- regardless if their musical output is quality or not- just to keep the younger target audience interested.

All time Low are a classic example= mediocre album review, nowhere as applauded as other 5k rated bands, but they are on easy street because of their looks and appeal to the young fans. That'll sell more issues than Deftones, Sad but True.

I said this a few weeks back, and Ill say it again- its not really Kerrangs fault here. Anybody can just go online and read about music whenever they want, and in general, all magazines do not sell as well as they used to.

Kerrang has to stick to it formula that it forged upon itself a coupla years ago when it adopted a more kiddish approach to writing about music-I hated that "The pictures they dont want you to see!" issue a few weeks back. Surely a band like Gaslight Anthem or Gojira would have been more interesting? Heat magazine "articles" like these totally clash with the album reviews that are written in a more serious, normal approach.

Regarding the Deftones- yes indeed, they would have been on the cover a couple of times this year if Kerrang was like it used to be- but because frontman Chino doesnt look like Andy Biersack, he doesnt make the cover anymore. That fucking sucks, and the same rule applies to bands like Gojira, Soundgarden, and people like Devin Townsend= They will all be in Kerrangs albums of the year Id say, but even though Kerrang would prefer to cover those bands/artists, they cant== because the young guns out there wont buy the issue if somebody different is on it!

As you said- if BVB and YM@6 do fade out o'er the next while, the mag will simply cast them to the sideline news, and plaster the "Next big thing" on the covers instead. Thats exactly what they did to the likes of Aiden, etc.
Doesnt matter. Deftones and the others will still be kicking ass in the next few years, and all those bands that Kerrang Kovers all the time will eventually fade out.

i love BVB. Not only are they all very talented musicians with good showmanship-resonating with all their fans. they also send a good message about bullies, & ppl who feel like outcasts, etc. It should be pointed out that the most influential artists, &scientists Einstein, vincent van gogh, beethoven, louie pasture were all considered outcasts but proved to be brilliant and inspiring artists. black veil brides has helped many people deal with issues their having & have said it's okay to be unique & being yourself. kudos for this band & their message. as well as their awesome songs & wonderful unique personalities!!! this band stands for something more than just songs-life itself.

Posted by airisross | November 28, 2012 6:49 PM | Reply to this

don't understand why people are so lame when it comes to magazines. magazines need to publish info on a lot of different bands-so people - shut the hell up! if you don't like the cover move on to the next page. there is a lot of info on a lot of bands in the magazine. what? do you not read the newspaper because you don't like the front page headline...it's absurd. read what's in it for you and move on. I for one Love the Black Veil Brides! and i don't agree with the negative comments-but that's their opinion. black veil brides do what they consider important to them. they are against the bullying, outcasts who don't fit in with the superficial people of the world. I for one, think it does take courage to stand up for their own beliefs with these negative comments of posers, etc. people who downgrade people for human rights & being yourself in life-not what people dictate are the inspiration of the world. not the followers of someone else's control. BLACK VEIL BRIDES are an awesome band with a good message.

These 12 year olds defending BVB are missing the whole point of the debate here.

WE DO NOT HATE BVB, WE HATE THAT KERRANG IS FEATURING THEM SO MUCH & WOULD LIKE MORE VARIATION IN THE MAGAZINE.

I agree with the comments written by Alex and Jason. The comment about Gaslight Anthem being introduced on the cover well before they became big is an interesting one. Could it be that this new cuddling up to the same bands is down to the new editor. When Kate was editor she obviously took the chance on the likes of Gaslight Anthem and therefore has more balls than current editor James. It also renders redundant the argument that Kerrang needs the same bands week in week our in order to sell. They were selling just as much with Kate at the helm. James take note.....

Posted by Ryan | November 29, 2012 9:59 PM | Reply to this

Thanks to all those that took the
time to read the comments I posted!
Im an old school Kerrang reader- I started
buying it in the early-mid 90s.
Even though I bought it because I worshiped Nirvana(Still my favourite band), the magazine was not just whoring them each week, and introduced me into a whole other spectrum of sounds over the years.

It was written totally different to how it is now. I was 14-15 at the time I first started buying it, but it wasnt written to appease and suit my age group. Oh no. I loved its approach to humour and journalism.
You younger readers out there gotta get some issues from the 90s online- you wont believe how different it once was. Hosts of great, diverse bands hogged the cover each week, sharing space with the big bands like the metallicas, korns, etc..

Granted, most of its former staff now work over at Metal Hammer, or even Q magazine, and I understand the changing of musical climates and Kerrangs constant adaptation to these,
I just dont like the constant
kiddish approach to putting the exact same bands week in, week out.
It never used to do that years ago. Deftones deserve the cover spot this week because of their superb new album- 5Ks from the mag itself But as I already said, they will perhaps never grace the cover again, because Chino doesnt appeal to the young kids, the way Andy Biersack does.

As for gaslight anthem- I doubt they will make the cover much, if ever again, either, because though Kerrang rates them higher musically than most of its constant cover stars, their faces on the
cover wont appeal to the younger readers.

One more thing, 4 Ks for the Rage against the Machine re-issue!! Are you fucking serious, lads! You handed that a fistful of Ks originally, and have done so ever since whenever its rated and mentioned in the mag. Its a 5 K Klassik album, and its importance deserves a cover story aswell!!!!!!!

I'll just say this. I do not hate BVB nor do I hate MCR. I actually do listen to them occasionally when I have time however, every week dude? Seriously? Oh, and there always just HAS to be something in there about YMAS or ATL. I've actually only just started buying Kerrang recently but I am starting to see a pattern here and I really don't like it. I started buying Kerrang to begin with because I saw the channel and I liked some of the bands they play on there but guess what? Half of them never make the bloody magazine! Why not put something like Earlyrise in your magazine or channel? Or Apocalyptica? Oh, that's right, they're not popular enough. I really do not like the fact that Kerrang is this big popularity contest with the bands. I don't even know why I buy it anymore, because most of the bands I listen to aren't in there!

YMAS, BVB, and the most shitest band ever Sleeping With Sirens are probably what has ruined this weeks issue. SWS are one of the most 'un-kerrang' bands ever and yet they appear in this weeks magazine. One question: WHY?!? The lead singer sounds like a fucking school kid with a spoon up their ass. Not worthy music.

I agree with what your saying to an extent. I'm 14 years old, i like all time low, but i don't listen to them because of their looks. that defeats the whole purpose of music for one because if a band looked like absolute shite but sounded amazing i'd listen to them and two, atl aren't even that good looking. I love you me at six not because i'm some stupid teen fangirl, but because i've been listening to them since 2005 (i think i was about 8 maybe younger?) and they got me out of a really dark place a couple of months ago. I know they've been in the mag ALOT but tbh i think i would love it if they were in a mag for a REASON. people like @stu saying they're shit they shouldn't be in the mag piss me off so much because if you see my arguments on the comments every issue i'm arguing that ymas are amazing. not that they should be in it every week for no reason.

@ymashayma

Just liasten to yourself, YMAS ARE shit, and it is fact by the way that they are in Kerrang EVERY FUCKING WEEK! And the fact that they are over-rated and over-played everywhere!

Posted by stu | December 2, 2012 6:45 PM | Reply to this

@ymashayma

Im not saying that you like All Time Low or YM@6 because of their looks- that is not what Im getting at at all.
If their music got ya through shit recently, fair play. Who am I to say whats wrong with them - thats what music is there for.

But your missing the point- If you were collecting, reading the mag for as long as I have been, you will know that it used to take more chances with its cover stars. If a band- heavy, doom, retro, punk-grunge, nu metal, glam metal, whatever- released an album that was brilliant- they got the cover by their Musical attributes. Sure, it helped if they looked like stars, but these days, its a bands image and connection to Kerrangs younger target audience that keeps them on the covers. Anybody reading the mag over the years will tell you this now.

Its annoying to see fantastic bands who release fantastic music miss the cover shot, because Kerrang is afraid the young readers wont buy it- so on go the usual suspects again.

A few years back, Deftones would have made the cover because of Kerrangs 5K review of their brilliant new album. Their last albium, was Kerrangs album of 2010, and they have been receiving brilliant acclaim since I remember seeing them first in the magazine in 1995.

My point is that now-- Deftones, and other former Kerrang cover stars, and other bands in general like Mastodon, Gojira, Lamb of God, and loads more that release brilliant reviewed music are sidelined in favour of the likes of All time Low- a band who Kerrang doesnt even like or rate half as much as the aforementioned others. But, the magazine plays it safe time and time again, by just slapping them on the cover--- because it'l sell more copies anyway.

Ive nothing against BVB and all them. Im too old to be debating bout who sucks- I did enough of that back in the day with my mates, too!!!

I, like many other long term readers would like to see the mag vary things more like they used to- if you honestly asked the staff who theyd like on the cover, youd get a host of awesome bands- like Deftones- that sadly cant make the cover anymore, cos they dont look like YM@6. Thats all Im getting at.

i know what you mean, like i said before, i'd rather ymas be in kerrang every week for an actual reason than in it every week for nothing. which is what's happening now. but people like @stu who are being ignorant are saying they're shit, but he, and nobody else, can change someones opinion. i'm not preaching that just because ymas essentially saved my life means that everyone should listen to them, i just think people should give them a break. it's kerrang people shuold be angry at. not ymas.

I actually agree with @ymashayma : I wouldn't mind as much the same bands on the cover every week if they did something that made them deserve the cover every week. It's the fact that they don't really do anything and get a cover for something as irrelevant as their diairies when amazing bands are releasing amazing albums.

That being said, I'd rather my 10 year-old daughter being obsessed by Black Veil Brides than by One Direction. Despite their similar fanbase, I do believe Black Veil Brides are way more talented. (They aren't the Deftones, but I am convinced she'll get there someday!)

I love bvb, and lets face it. They're getting all this attention because of the new album which already was postponed so its even a bigger deal, the movie, and the new tour. BVB is getting tons of press and yes its a lot of press by Kerrang, but they deserve it with what they're doing.

Sorry, but just a thought- are you fans of Black Veil Brides aware that your band isn't the only one with a clear message on anti-bullying and self-determination. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of bands, especially metal bands, have this as a theme in their lyrics. BVB are no different.

And as for the cover thing, I don't think its a problem in the slightest. Yes, it would be nice to see Deftones or Maiden or Zepplin or whatever on the cover, but at the end of the day, they have to sell copies. And if All Time Low on the cover manage to get someone to buy it, and then they read about some more obscure, but maybe better, bands, inside, then isn't that better than having a magazine full of 'good' bands that no-one ever buys?
Just a thought.

Some people may hate some of these bands, but not everyone does. Everyone has a different taste. While you may hate Black Veil Brides, they mean the world to someone else. These bands represent so much more than you'll ever know. They save lives. They may not mean something to you, but they do to someone else. So stop complaining.
