Congratulations are in order for Green Day, who’ve just scored their fifth UK Number One with the brilliant, 4/5-rated Saviors!

The punk rock legends released album number 14 last Friday, and fans have not only been streaming it in their droves but snapping it up in physical formats, too, with Saviors also topping the Official Vinyl Albums Chart this week (reportedly one-third of their total sales were from vinyl).

In a video message for the Official Charts, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong enthused: “Thank you so much for our fifth Official Number One record in the UK. We’re so excited about our future, about our album Saviors and just want to thank all the fans everywhere; the most important people to us! Fans, friends, family, whatever you want to call it. It’s been an amazing run for us so far, for decades, and we love you all. We’re really, truly grateful for this.”

Saviors joins American Idiot, 21st Century Breakdown, Revolution Radio and Father Of All… as albums that have all been UK Number Ones for Green Day. Elsewhere Neck Deep’s self-titled LP has landed at Number 11, and Saxon’s Hell, Fire And Damnation hit Number 19.

Well done, all! Watch the new video message from Billie below:
