“This is definitely a defining point in our career, of reminding us of who we are. We’re the band that plays the rock songs that encourage you. We’re this band!”

So said Brian Fallon last summer in an interview with K!, revealing where The Gaslight Anthem were at following the end of a seven-year hiatus, and ahead of the release of their sixth album History Books. And since the record’s unveiling in October 2023, that’s what they’ve spent the past few months doing: celebrating their joyous new chapter by hitting the road throughout North America, Europe and the UK to show their fans – and themselves – that they are well and truly back.

Last week this epic returning run took them to London for three nights at the Roundhouse in Camden. As well as debuting plenty of History Books material for several thousand people in the capital, they celebrated each era of their back-catalogue and superbly changed up the setlist every night – from beloved early anthems like I Coul’da Been A Contender and 1930 through to last month’s surprise Billie Eilish cover.

There were also bonus guest appearances each evening from support act Emily Wolfe (for The Weatherman and Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts) and alternative duo Blue Violet (who joined the band for a beautiful Here’s Looking At You, Kid).
