Album Review: Danny Worsnop – Shades Of Blue

From the tugs-of war over Asking Alexandria’s musical direction to his forays with hard rock project We Are Harlot and 2017’s country album The Long Road Home, it’s always been clear that Danny Worsnop aspired to be more than just a screamer. And with the set of pipes he’s got, who can blame him? There’s no denying that he can belt out a tune, and Shades Of Blue gives full rein to his powerful, smoky, versatile voice.
This second solo album treads a lot of ground, from the soulful shuffle of Keep On Lovin’, through the acoustic balladry of Tomorrow and the blues-rock swagger of Ain’t Feeling Sorry. Where The Long Road home felt like a continuous and distinctive journey, however, this sounds like a talented singer enlivening an unconnected collection of far less distinctive genre workouts. The material doesn’t always hit the right heights, but the delivery can’t be faulted.
