Dave Grohl co-hosts Tonight Show, says he caught his mum drinking beers with Green Day

Watch clips from Dave Grohl's entertaining co-hosting of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night (May 24).

Given how great Dave Grohl is at literally everything, it’ll surely come as no surprise to learn that the Foo Fighters man makes for a fantastic talk show host, as proven on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Dave joined Jimmy at 30 Rock as co-host for an entertaining series of segments, as well as an interview to help promote his new TV series From Cradle To Stage.

With the programme diving into Dave’s mother Virginia’s 2017 book of the same name, he explains how the concept of exploring the relationship between rock stars and their mums came about in the first place.

“My mother was a public school teacher for 30 years, and when she retired, I was like, ‘Mom, don’t do that cruise ship thing,’” Dave jokes. “I was like, ‘I’ve got a cruise ship – it’s a tour bus! Let’s go!’ And she started going on tour with me. I gave her a laminate and she would just go and hang out, and I’d be onstage playing and then get offstage and be like, ‘Where’s my mom?!’ and she’d be drinking beers with Green Day upstairs and hanging out – she’s very cool!

“But when she was on tour she was like, ‘Where’s all the other moms?’ So she went to go find these mothers to interview them and talk to them about what it’s like to raise a musician. In the book she talked to Dr. Dre and Mike D and she talked to Pharrell’s mom, Zac Brown’s mom, Miranda Lambert’s mom…

“She made this great book, and then we did a documentary series, and that’s the thing that’s on TV now.”
