Here's Jay Weinberg Recreating The Moment He Met Slipknot As A Kid

Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg has recreated the moment he first met his now-band when he was younger. Amazing.

Back in June, Slipknot's Jay Weinberg revealed in an awesome video for SJC Custom Drums how he met The Nine when he was just a kid, hanging out with Jim Root backstage while dressed up as frontman Corey Taylor. (It was pretty damn cute.)

Now of course a member of the band, the drummer created the ultimate throwback moment with the help of Jim and his father Max, who was also in the original photo. The three posed for a couple of shots backstage at the PNC Bank Arts Centre in Holmdel, New Jersey – the exact location of their first-ever meeting. Posting the pics on his Instagram, Jay then wrote “Time is a flat circle.”

After attending his first Slipknot gig in his formative years, Jay revealed in the aforementioned video that he knew that, “This is going to define the rest of my life.” And, surely, it has…

In the SJC Custom Drums video, Jay spoke of his audition process for Slipknot:

“After spending a lot of time on the road with different bands, I stopped touring entirely and went back to school. My manager, who managed this band I used to be in, calls me and says, ‘What are you doing? I have something, and I think you’d wanna do it. Can you just trust me and get out here to LA?’

“Without hesitation I was just like, ‘Yeah! Okay… I can do that.’ I didn’t know what it was for, but I knew if someone was asking me to come and play drums on something, I wanna kick the shit out of it.

“I go out there and go to this studio, and they’re like, ‘Alright, there’s a drum set. We’ll bring in Slipknot in, like, 20 minutes. That cool?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah… okay, that’s cool.’

“Just from going on muscle memory from when I was, like, 14 or 15 in my shed, we played about 20 Slipknot songs. And it was like, ‘Alright man, if you want this then it’s yours.’”

Catch Slipknot live in the UK next year with the mighty Behemoth in tow.

“It feels good to be coming back for an extensive tour of Europe and the UK," says Corey Taylor. "No matter how many times we come there, it always feels like we can never get enough, nor play all the cities we want to. But one thing’s for certain: the audiences are always some of the best in the world.”
