James Hetfield on watching Judas Priest at Power Trip: “We’re fans at the end of the day”

After going viral for watching Judas Priest front-row at Power Trip, Metallica’s James Hetfield reflects on the experience: “There’s fans behind us, looking at us. They’re watching us enjoy that. How cool!”

Metallica have reflected on their experiences at Power Trip this past weekend – including the moment they went viral for watching Judas Priest.

With ’Tallica’s headline set taking place on the Sunday evening, the metal legends arrived early to catch Rob Halford and co. the night before, on Saturday, October 7. And fans in attendance saw and captured James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett having the best time watching Priest front-row, while Metallica’s official Instagram also account shared a very happy action shot, with the caption: ‘Pounding the world like a battering ram’ (a lyric from Rapid Fire).

Now, on the latest episode of Metallica’s official podcast The Metallica Report, James, Kirk and bassist Rob Trujillo have all spoken about the Power Trip weekend, with Papa Het talking about what it was like to watch Priest and be seen rocking out with the fans behind him: “I just kind of realised that we’re down in the very front, looking up. You got Rob Halford riding out on a motorcycle, and there’s fans behind us, looking at us. They’re watching us enjoy that. How cool! I guess that’s pretty cool, you know, but we’re fans at the end of the day. We wanted to be in the mix and see it. So it’s been a fantastic weekend.”
