Pearl Jam cancel two shows due to Eddie Vedder throat damage from extreme weather

After Eddie Vedder’s voice was damaged due to “heat, dust and smoke from the fires” in Paris, Pearl Jam have been forced to cancel a pair of European gigs.

Tonight’s Pearl Jam show in Prague is unfortunately off, following on from their cancellation in Vienna earlier this week.

Both gigs have been pulled following the grunge legends’ show in Paris, in which “extreme circumstances” caused frontman Eddie Vedder to be left without a voice. Earlier this week, the band wrote in a statement to fans that: “…due to the extreme circumstances at the last outdoor site outside of Paris (heat, dust, and smoke from the fires) our singer Ed Vedder’s throat was left damaged. He has seen doctors and had treatment but as of yet, his vocal cords have not recovered.

“This is brutal news and horrible timing… for everyone involved.”

Unfortunately, their Prague show tonight (July 22) has been cancelled now too, with Pearl Jam sharing: “We were hopeful that Ed would make a recovery in time to perform. He has seen a doctor in Prague and is continuing the treatments for his vocal cords, but unfortunately, there is still no voice available. The effects on his throat from the last outdoor show are still just too brutal.

“We again send our sincere apologies to all of those who have worked intensely to put on the show. Even bigger apologies to those that were expecting to attend. We’ve always had memorable shows here and are with you in our extreme disappointment. You can be guaranteed we are doing everything we can to help fix the situation. Again, so sorry.”

Pearl Jam’s final two European shows are at the Amsterdam Ziggo Dome on July 24 – 25. Keep your eyes peeled to see if they are also affected.

If you happen to be in Prague today, Pearl Jam are still selling their show posters and merch, with proceeds going towards supporting Ukrainian relief. Good guys.
