There's An Unofficial Smashing Pumpkins x Jay-Z Mash-Up Album… And It Rules

Rapper Spose has mixed Jay-Z's The Black Album with classic Smashing Pumpkins tracks in an unofficial online release.

The Smashing Pumpkins may just have released two more new songs, but Maine rapper Spose has given curious fans something new to think about by mixing some of their best-loved tracks with Jay-Z's The Black Album in an unofficial mash-up.

The new album, entitled Marcy Projects And The Infinite Sadness, features Jay-Z's raps backed with tracks made exclusively from Pumpkins' classics such as Cherub Rock, Tonight, Tonight and Ava Adore.

After tweeting the release, Spose described Smashing Pumpkins as "my favourite band", adding that "I'm not sure how long this will exist before it gets taken down."

The album can be streamed or downloaded in full from a custom-built website which also features original mash-up artwork by Steve Gendron. In addition to audio, there's a full video mash-up for all 14 songs.

The Black Album is established in an honourable tradition of modern mash-ups, famously mixed with the Beatles' White Album by producer Danger Mouse in 2003 to make The Grey Album.

Spose has tweeted that the fan response to Marcy Projects has already surpassed his expectations, and that he'd been thinking about doing it for months.
