Bad Wolves' Doc Coyle says it's better to be known for something like Zombie than not known at all

Bad Wolves Would Rather Be "The Zombie Band" Than Nobodies

If you know one thing about US metallers Bad Wolves, it's that they covered Zombie by The Cranberries, and subsequently went on to become a massive hit for them. At time of writing, they have 203m plays on YouTube for the cover, which is staggering when you think about it.

Bad Wolves became overnight sensations and their cover went on to be certified platinum in the United States and Canada, as well as gold in Australia. But is has this success become an albatross around the neck of Bad Wolves? Will they forever be known as The Band That Covered Zombie?

"It’s better to be ‘the Zombie band’ than the band no one’s ever heard of," guitarist Doc Coyle tells Loud magazine. "So it’s better to be known for something than nothing."

Coyle goes on to discuss how their success has been met with criticism from rock and metal fans online.

"The internet is not the real world," says Doc. "If the internet was the real world, we would be playing a shack right now with Nickelback. Because Nickelback is the most shit-talked band that people love to hate, but every show is sold out and there’s 12,000 people there. So why do those things not equate? How is that in this realm, everyone loves to talk shit about them, but when you go to the show it’s sold out?"

Frontman Tommy Vext revealed last month that Bad Wolves had 21 new songs written for their upcoming second album. Coyle says now that they're writing heavier songs than the previous record.

"We have four or five songs that are really trying to bring the beef, the shit you can throw weights around to," Doc tells Loud, adding that they have more catchy, "mainstream stuff" in the works too.
