Billie Joe Armstrong Has Revealed His Favourite Green Day Song Ever

Given that Green Day have 12 albums to their name (with another one soon to arrive in the form of Father Of All… next year), picking a favourite song from their inimitable discography is almost an impossible task… but not for frontman Billie Joe Armstrong.

In a new interview with KROQ 106.7/FM’s The Kevin & Bean Show, the vocalist and guitarist revealed that his personal favourite Green Day tune is the epic, nine-minute-long Jesus Of Suburbia from 2004's iconic American Idiot album, while bassist Mike Dirnt instead joked that he couldn't decide as it was like picking a favourite child.

It's an interesting (although excellent) pick from Billie Joe, who recently told Kerrang! that he doesn't actually like listening to long songs anymore – and that's why the band's forthcoming Father Of All… has a running length of 26 minutes.

“I really decided that I don’t like long songs!" the frontman revealed. "I am like a 16-year-old with ADHD, because if I’m listening to other people’s music on iTunes or whatever, I always look at how long the song is, and if it’s over three minutes I go, ‘Urgh, pass. I don’t wanna listen to that shit!’ Who has time for that?!”

“You don’t get your three minutes back if it sucks,” joked drummer Tré Cool.

“And that’s coming from a band that wrote Jesus Of Suburbia!” added Billie Joe.

Kerrang! then pointed out that the six-minute-long Forever Now was a fan-favourite from Green Day's most recent album, 2016's Revolution Radio.

“I love that song, yeah…” Billie Joe agreed.

“But we shift gears a lot," Mike said. "Most songs that are too long are just riding one line the whole time, you know what I mean? It’s very repetitive.”

It's hard to argue with that…
