Twelve years in, and The Veer Union remain bloody yet unbowed. After releasing their debut as Veer in 2006, the Canadian band decided to change their name and re-release the album. In 2011, after being dropped by their major label, TVU refused to give in and released their new record on an indie label. And in 2013, they crowdfunded their latest EP.

Any of those arduous undertakings might have destroyed a lesser band, but The Veer Union simply saw them as new hurdles to overcome.

Now, with over 100,000 albums sold, twenty million streams worldwide, and seven Top 40 singles under their belts, The Veer Union are releasing Decade II: Rock & Acoustic, out today, August 31, on frontman Crispin Earl’s own Rock Shop Entertainment label, just in time for their upcoming Resurrection Tour with Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Tantric, and Shallowside.

Today, it’s our pleasure to premiere Living Not Alive, the new track and video from Decade II. Created by Dark Chamber Pictures and directed by James Ryan and Peter Warkentin, the video showcases the band’s earnest vitality while using eerie digital visualizations to manifest the song’s theme of using social media as a crutch while dealing with mental illness.

As Earl describes it:

"What inspired me to write the song was the connection between the over-use of social media and clinical depression. We used to live in a time where people really lived in the moment -- now it seems more important to capture that moment for a post to get likes and shares, in exchange for a dose of dopamine.

"We are all guilty of this, myself included. Some people deal with this better than others, but the message in Living Not Alive is simple: We shouldn't forget to take time to really live in the moment, before we become lost in a world where we are living, but not alive."
