Sex Pistols' Johnny Rotten Calls Green Day "Turgid"

Oo-er.

Sex Pistols' Johnny Rotten Calls Green Day "Turgid"

In a New York Times interview with John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols), the 62-year-old has hit out at Green Day.

Discussing the state of punk in 2018, John said: “It is embarrassing, really. How many bands are out there like Green Day now? I look at them, and I just have to laugh. They’re coat hangers, you know. A turgid version of something that doesn’t actually belong to them.”

John also then went on to refer to punk as a “caricature”, and rap as a “perfect backdrop to sell a pair of sneakers”. Hmmm…

This isn't the first time John has lashed out at Green Day, saying in 2006: “Don’t try and tell me Green Day are punk. They’re not, they’re plonk and they’re bandwagoning on something they didn’t come up with themselves. I think they are phony.”

He also told Rolling Stone in 2015 that he has "never been a fan of them". No shit…
