If you’ve managed to watch the new HBO film Deadwood: The Movie, you might notice a familiar rock star face makes an appearance. Jerry Cantrell, famed guitarist of legendary grunge act Alice In Chains, makes a brief cameo in the western film, based on the television series of the same name.

“Snuck into a shot or two in the Deadwood movie courtesy of W. Earl Brown.” Jerry wrote on his Instagram, “Standing next to Garret Dillahunt here. I am a huge fan of the show and have become good friends with Earl and Robin Weigert over the poker table and other shenanigans. I gave Ian McShane a vinyl copy of Rainier Fog that day too. Was fun to be in the background watching the professionals do their thing. Check it out cocksuckers!”

HBO has been making more of an effort to include some cool musicians in their series. As you may remember, Game Of Thrones has had Mastodon on the show, while Anthrax appeared on the Catch The Throne Volume II mixtape, amongst others. It’s wonderful to know that the network is maintaining a good relationship with the metal genre and showcasing its stars through various forms on TV.

Meanwhile, this is not Jerry Cantrell’s first time working with film. Alice in Chains’ latest record, Rainer Fog, was adapted into the sci-fi horror series Black Antenna. When Kerrang! sat down with director Adam Mason to talk about the collaboration, he had stated, “I went to meet Alice in Chains to discuss doing a couple of videos. Jerry Cantrell was telling me about the album’s themes, and for whatever reason the record and my idea just came together in my mind. I pitched them the idea of Black Antenna, and they jumped on it. The next thing I knew, instead of doing one or two music videos, we did twelve and a movie.”
