Dave Grohl reveals who he wants to induct Foo Fighters into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

With Foo Fighters recently announced as one of the 16 nominees for the 2021 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction (alongside the likes of Iron Maiden and Rage Against The Machine), the band have been pondering who they'd like to induct them should they make it in. And while guitarist Pat Smear votes for Dave Grohl's mother Virginia, the frontman says he'd like former Police drummer Stewart Copeland to take on the job.
Explaining his reasoning on The Howard Stern Show, Dave reveals that it all stems back to the moment he was writing and recording Foos' debut self-titled album over a quarter of a century ago.
"This band started with this demo tape that I did ages ago…" he recalls. "I went to the studio for five days, I played all the instruments, I recorded 13 or 14 songs just for fun, I made cassettes. And I called it Foo Fighters because I didn't really want everyone to know it was me.
"One of the reasons why I did that is because when I was young, someone gave me a record by an artist named Klark Kent," the frontman continues. "It was this kinda weird, like, fringe thing – 'Klark Kent? Who's Klark Kent?' It sounded a lot like The Police… because it was actually Stewart Copeland. The drummer of The Police made this record under the name Klark Kent; he didn't put his name on the record… You were like, 'Wow, who's Klark Kent? This is kinda rad.' And then someone's like, '(Whispers) That's Stewart Copeland.'"
As well as inspiring Dave in such a way, the musician adds that Stewart would also be right to induct Foo Fighters because he "can make a fuckin' speech – the guy can talk".
Of course, this is now Dave's second time to potentially enter the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, as he was also inducted in 2014 with Nirvana.
