The first artists have been announced for 2020's Roadburn festival

Emma Ruth Rundle And Perturbator To Curate Roadburn 2020

Following in the footsteps of Tomas Lindberg this year, Emma Ruth Rundle and James Kent (aka Perturbator) have been named as the official curators of Roadburn 2020.

This is the first time two artists have been chosen to curate one lineup, joining previous Roadburn visionaries as Jacob Bannon, John Dyer Baizley, Neurosis and Electric Wizard.

Having played two sets at this year's event (one solo, one with Thou), we can only imagine what Emma Ruth Rundle has up her sleeve for a headline set next year. Perturbator made its Roadburn debut in 2017, and now mastermind James Kent is bringing his love of metal and dark electronics to 2020's bill. It's gonna be bonkers.

Roadburn has also announced a selection of specially commissioned projects. Each year, two artists join forces to create a piece of work to only be performed live once, and next April's collaborations are going to be spectacular.

James Kent and Cult Of Luna’s Johannes Persson will come together for what is described as "a grand centre-piece for Roadburn," while Vile Creature and Bismuth will collide on a collaborative piece called A Hymn Of Loss And Hope.

Jo Quail, who performed with At The Gates, Myrkur and Mono at this year's festival, will team up with Rotterdam's New Trombone Collective for a piece of music called The Cartographer. “Arguably heaviness is an emotional concept, reaching far beyond the confines of volume, speed and instrumentation,” says Jo, discussing the meeting of classical and contemporary heavy music.

Julie Christmas will also be performing at Roadburn 2020. Backed by Johannes Persson and ex-Kylesa guitarist, Laura Pleasants., she will play both older classics and new material for the first time.

Roadburn takes place in Tilburg, Netherlands, from April 16-19 2020. Tickets go on sale September 24.
