"Fired up to finally be back onstage!" Green Day to play NFL Honors awards show

Green Day have announced that they're "fired up to finally be back onstage", confirming details of their first live performance since COVID hit and their planned 2020 Hella Mega Tour dates were all rescheduled or cancelled.

The Oakland punk rock kings will be playing this Saturday's NFL Honors awards show, which takes place on the evening before Super Bowl LV and will also feature comedian Steve Harvey.

"With the unprecedented nature of this year, we are excited to bring the 10th annual NFL Honors show to life in a unique format," says Mark Quenzel, NFL Senior Vice President of Programming and Production. "We look forward to producing an unforgettable show that will celebrate the game and its brightest stars in an entertaining fashion."

Of course, all hope is not yet gone that the 2021 iteration of the Hella Mega Tour – featuring Green Day, Fall Out Boy and Weezer – will still go ahead, with its opening date set for June 9 in Vienna. Last month, Weezer's Rivers Cuomo revealed, "My manager just told me yesterday that the U.S. promoter is still saying it’s gonna happen. That could change, but I’m not making any other plans for the summer."

Until then, at least we'll have a brand-new Green Day performance to enjoy very soon…
