Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong Releases New Cover Song And Launches No Fun Mondays

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has announced that he’s going to release a new cover every week “until we’re let back out into the world”.

Following the release of his awesome, touching rendition of I Think We’re Alone Now, Billie Joe Armstrong has unveiled a brand-new cover of You Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory by Johnny Thunders.

The Green Day frontman has also announced that fans can expect a new cover to arrive every week as part of the brilliantly titled No Fun Mondays, stating that he’ll be doing this “until we’re let back out into the world”.

Given Billie Joe’s wide-ranging taste in music, we can’t wait to see what else is to come from No Fun Mondays.

Of course he’s a huge lover of all things punk, but the musician grew up listening to everything from Elvis Presley to AC/DC to Fleetwood Mac to The Beatles. More recently, he’s shown his appreciation for Aussie punk favourites The Chats, while also supporting his son Joey and Jakob’s respective bands SWMRS and Ultra Q.

Basically, we should be prepared for him to cover just about anything.

As well as working on new cover songs, over the weekend Billie Joe joined a bunch of other musicians (including Dave Grohl) in performing for The iHeartRadio Living Room Concert For America.

The frontman was joined by his dogs as he played a stripped-back rendition of Green Day’s Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, prefacing the performance by stating, “I hope everybody’s happy and healthy – or trying to be as happy as possible. I know it’s a really stressful time. But I just wanna say it’s an honour to be playing for everybody right now.”
