Metallica Frontman James Hetfield Unveils Epic Classic Car Collection

In an awesome new video documenting his classic car collection, Metallica frontman James Hetfield has discussed his love for motors and where this obsession started, as well as a look around his snazzy garage.

The five-minute mini-documentary – which serves as a teaser for the recently launched Reclaimed Rust exhibit – was made by Petersen Automotive Museum, whom James donated his car collection to last year.

"Reclaimed Rust to me means that you take an old guitar and it's sitting there with songs still in it, waiting for someone to pick it up and bring life into it," he explains at the start of the video. "That's what I love and I've done that with many of these cars. I have seen cars sitting in a field in Kansas and thinking they've got a story to tell, still, so let's bring this back to life."

The full description of this awesome behind-the-scenes video reads: "In 2019, James Hetfield donated his car collection to the Petersen Automotive Museum. James has always been a car guy and shares his car journey to one of the coolest custom car collections around. Hetfield, has described seeing cars in the same way he sees music: as forms of freedom and expression that convey the passions of their creator.

"Best known as a co-founder, songwriter, singer, and guitarist for the heavy metal band Metallica, James Hetfield has also gained recognition in the automotive world for his unique collection of entirely bespoke vehicles. While the vast majority of collectors acquire vehicles by purchasing pre-existing examples, Hetfield elected instead to build his from scratch, channeling creativity often reserved for his music into the production of rolling sculptures."

In other ’Tallica news, drummer Lars Ulrich recently hinted that the metal titans could work on a new album in lockdown.

“…As everybody who has creative juices flowing through their veins, they’re being challenged to try to come up with new ways to be creative, and I think that those are wonderful takeaways from the devastation that’s happening all over the world at the moment,” he said.

“Even if you bring it into our world, the people that make all the software and all the stuff that all use to record are sitting right now trying to figure out how Lars and James and Kirk [Hammett] and Rob [Trujillo] can make a Metallica record from four different locations in four different states. And that’s something that we’re obviously circling and very excited about…

“So, will there be a Metallica quarantine record?” he pondered. “I can’t tell you, because, again, I don’t know how long the quarantine will last. But if you and I and the rest of the world are sitting here six months from now or a year from now, I’d say there’s a very good chance.”
