From a rare old demo to covers by St. Vincent and Sam Fender, Metallica have been giving Sad But True a lot of love this week.

And the spotlight continues to point on The Black Album's epic hit, with the metal titans sharing a 1991 live performance from the first "proper" (their words) gig of The Black Album tour at Gentofte Stadion, Copenhagen, Denmark on August 10. This version is taken from the band's Live at Gentofte Stadion DVD, which is included in their incredible Black Album reissue due out in full on September 10.

"How is your Black Album overload treatin’ you?" asks drummer Lars Ulrich. "Here’s some more love…

"There’s now a clip available this morning on our YouTube channel of us playing Sad But True at Gentofte Stadion in Copenhagen during the first show of the AC/DC tour in ’91.

"As some of you may know is a stone’s throw away from where I was born.

"Another small bit of trivia, these snaps are from the rehearsal leading up to the show at K.B. Hallen which is where I saw Deep Purple, my first concert, 18 years earlier."

As well as the Black Album reissue, the band will also be releasing The Metallica Blacklist – featuring the likes of Miley Cyrus, Elton John, Ghost, Weezer, Corey Taylor, Biffy Clyro, Royal Blood, PUP, IDLES and more – on the same day.

"With contributions from countries all over the globe from the U.S. to Nigeria, there are tracks from singer-songwriters, country artists, electronic, and hip-hop artists alongside punk rockers, indie darlings, icons of rock, metal, world music, and many, many more covering the entire spectrum from musicians we’ve shared the stage with, to some who were not even born yet when the original album was released!” they say.

"In addition to raising money for charity, we wanted to show that Metallica’s music transcends genres, distance, and cultures, and we like to think that – with everyone’s help – we’ve done just that. It was important to us that the artists could choose whichever song they most connected to; it didn’t matter if we already had multiple versions of a song, if an artist wanted to cover that song, so be it. We were honored to have artists of this caliber want to be a part of the project and we hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed putting it all together!

"One album, 12 songs, 53 artists, unlimited possibilities.”
