My Chemical Romance Announce Thursday As Opener At Their Los Angeles Show

Emo-hardcore legends Thursday will open for MCR at their upcoming reunion show.

It was only in March that we were covering Thursday’s last show ever at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, and already the band have announced that they’ll be playing a gig in Los Angeles this December. That said, this is the sort of gig one doesn’t turn down: Thursday will be opening for My Chemical Romance at the band’s first gig since 2012.

MCR announced the inclusion of Thursday via their Twitter:

This new is awesome, though not terribly surprising. My Chemical Romance and Thursday have long celebrated one another — Frank Iero and the Future Violents opened for Thursday at the aforementioned Vitus show, and Frank recently took the band’s frontman Geoff Rickly out on tour with him this summer.

Thursday were also vocal in their support of MCR’s live return back on Halloween:

Given how hard the news of the My Chemical Romance reunion hit when the band announced it, picking opening acts and the like seems like almost an afterthought. The band themselves were genuinely surprised by the sheer outpouring of response, releasing a statement expressing both their gratitude and their amazement.

“It is truly unbelievable to us the happiness we have experienced over the past two days.” said the band. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the warm welcome back. We truly did not expect this. See you soon. Xoxo, MCR.”

It’s also understandable that My Chemical Romance’s live return has become a global event. The band has already announced that they’ll be headlining Download Japan, as well as playing Download Australia and a one-off show in New Zealand with Jimmy Eat World. Fingers crossed, given the gigantic response these three appearances have seen over the last two weeks, that the U.S. and UK will get a full list of festival and tour dates in the near future.
