My Chemical Romance Are Headlining Download Festival Japan

Download Festival Japan, get ready: My Chemical Romance are coming.

Following on from the colossal announcement that My Chemical Romance are performing new shows in Australia and New Zealand, the emo titans have now unveiled yet another gig.

The returning New Jersey heroes will also be headlining Download Festival in Japan next year, and they’ll be joined by a fantastic undercard consisting of The Offspring, Evanescence, Jimmy Eat World, In Flames and At The Gates – with even more bands to be announced.

This means that, since announcing their comeback on Halloween, My Chem have announced a total of five worldwide dates. Which begs the question: Are there even more to come? We certainly hope so…

In the days following My Chem’s highly-anticipated return, the band themselves revealed that they weren’t expecting such an incredible response from the rock world.

“It is truly unbelievable to us the happiness we have experienced over the past two days,” the band said in a statement. “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the warm welcome back. We truly did not expect this. See you soon. Xoxo, MCR.”

Even Ohio superstars twenty one pilots weighed in on the news, with frontman Tyler Joseph saying that they’ve been a “huge influence” on the duo.

“I hope they pull it off, you know what I mean?” he continued. “I think that some people are just gonna be interested to kind of see if it works – almost wondering if it’s not. And I’m pulling for it.”

“I think – especially what Tyler’s saying – if you go away hopefully on a good note and then you’re missed, you don’t wanna come back and ruin it, or make it underwhelming, because then you’ve ruined your chance to go out as a legend,” drummer Josh Dun added.
