Ozzy Nearly Drinks and Drugs Himself to Death in New Music Video

Ozzy Osbourne’s new video for Under the Graveyard recreates one of the darkest periods of the Prince’s life — only overcome with the help of his devoted wife and manager, Sharon.

In what might be his darkest and most personal work yet, Ozzy Osbourne’s new music video for hit single Under the Graveyard takes an unflinching look at one of the toughest times Ozzy has ever faced, confronting a drink and drug habit that nearly cost him his life.

Set in the late ’70s at the beginning of Ozzy’s solo career, the semi-autobiographical video depicts actor Jack Kilmer as the Prince of Darkness during what might have been his lowest point — but ultimately provides hope and inspiration in also highlighting the redeeming power of his relationship with manager and wife Sharon Osbourne (as played by Jessica Barden).

The video is perhaps particularly effective in conveying the suffering and torment Ozzy endured thanks to the talented man directing it: Jonas Åkerlund not only has experience working with Ozzy on videos for “Let Me Hear You Scream” and “Gets Me Through,” but was the director of last year’s Lords of Chaos, the film about Norway’s early black metal scene.

Jonas developed the story into a ‘mini movie,’” Ozzy explains. “But, to be quite honest, it’s hard for me to watch because it takes me back to some of the darkest times in my life. Thankfully Sharon was there to pick me up and believe in me. It was the first time she was there to fully support me and build me back up, but it certainly wasn’t the last.”

Under the Graveyard features Mike Watt of Minutemen on guitar, Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses on bass, and Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers on drums — and is due out in 2020 on Osbourne’s twelfth studio album, Ordinary Man.

Ozzy Osbourne was forced to postpone his No More Tours II tour due to illness this year, but he’s back out on the road in 2020 – touring the U.S. with Marilyn Manson, and the UK with Judas Priest.
