Power Trip’s Riley Gale Has LGBTQ+ Centre Named In His Memory

Funds raised in memory of the late Power Trip singer will help provide a home for those who need it in Dallas’ LGBTQ+ community

Funds raised in honour of Power Trip singer Riley Gale, who passed away on August 24, aged 34, are to be used to open an LGBTQ+ centre in Dallas, Texas. The money, donated to Dallas Hope Charities, the organisation to whom the band asked for memorial donations to be made, will help provide a place for up to eight people aged 18 to 24 in the city, to be named after Riley in his memory.

We had no idea what that would result in, but the metal, thrasher community is like the most giving, generous, connected — it’s crazy just the people that have come together,” said Dallas Hope Charities’ CEO Evie Scrivner. In his living life, he was excited about being a part of that.”

The Dallas Hope Centre, which will be officially opened on December 1 is the second community asset to be named for Riley. The centre also houses what will be renamed the Riley Gale Library, which will contain many of the frontman’s books, donated by his family.

Trivium recently paid noisy tribute to Riley, covering PT’s storming Executioner’s Tax (Swing Of The Axe) during a live stream.

All of us band and crew got to know Riley quite a bit,” Matt said. I feel like Power Trip was one of the very few bands that weren’t newer’ but they were newer to the world scene and I think they had a better shot of becoming one of the biggest metal/crossover/hardcore bands on the planet.”

Matt continued: I know that those guys can still pull it together and I hope they can still pull it together and do what they do. Riley will be greatly missed. Everyone remembers him as being an undeniably incredible frontman which he was with a voice that sounded like no-one else.

I think Power Trip was doing something very different that other people weren’t doing and it was amazing they were able to bring so many fans of so many different genres into one band. So we want to pay tribute here and play a little song, we hope we do it a little bit of justice.”
