Lars Ulrich has shared a screengrab and video footage of his heartwarming meeting with Milan Rossignol, a two-year-old Metallica fan battling a rare type of cancer, Langerhans cell histiocytosis.

The drummer joined Milan and his family via Zoom following a campaign by the Montreal Children's Hospital on Twitter, where the young music lover has been receiving treatment. Though he is unable to speak or be verbal, paediatric oncologist Dr. Sharon Abish told Global News that Milan's face "lights up" whenever he sees videos of the metal titans.

Following their surprise chat with Lars, father Yannick said, "Because the Montreal Children’s Hospital [made] a miracle for Milan and I think it’s possible [that] Milan [could] have a miracle too."

Posting their meeting on Instagram, Lars wrote: "Grateful to have one of our youngest fans, 2-year-old Milan, his mom Catherine, dad Yannick and siblings Coralie and Loïc as part of the Metallica Family.

"So touched that our music makes a difference through these challenging times for all of you.

"Loved connecting via Zoom – sending much love to you all as well as Dr. Goloff and your medical team from here in San Francisco."
