See Mark Hoppus jamming blink-182 songs on bass for the first time since his cancer diagnosis

Mark Hoppus digs into blink-182’s back-catalogue – with a particular focus on their 2003 Untitled album – and performs bass for the first time in over a year.

For the first time since he was diagnosed with cancer, Mark Hoppus has picked up his bass and jammed along to some blink-182 tracks.

With a particular focus on the pop-punks2003 Untitled album, the bassist took to his Twitch channel to run through Asthenia, Always, Easy Target, Here’s Your Letter and Violence, plus 2005 Greatest Hits single Not Now, and the amusing 14-second Built This Pool from 2016’s ace California album (as caught on YouTube by HimynameisSean, Blink Clips and dcrusher).

Not only is this the first time that I’ve tried to play these songs in well over a year, this is the first time that I’ve felt well enough to play my bass since I was diagnosed,” Mark admitted, before adding that this is the first time I’ve picked up my bass in a few months, even”.

Not only is it heartwarming and just brilliant to see Mark playing again, these videos follow this month’s promising news that his chemotherapy is working. Scans indicate that the chemo is working!” he shared on July 19. I still have months of treatment ahead, but it’s the best possible news. I’m so grateful and confused and also sick from last week’s chemo. But the poison the doctors pump into me and the kind thoughts and wishes of people around me are destroying this cancer. Just gonna keep fighting…”
