Tom Morello To Release Tribute To Chris Cornell

Tom Morello has told the Chicago Tribune that he is releasing a new single in honour of late singer Chris Cornell, with whom he released three studio albums when they were both members of Audioslave. The song, called Every Step That I Take, features Portugal. The Man and dance musician Whethan.

"We're partnering with an organisation called SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education), focusing on suicide prevention, information and depression awareness," Tom told the Tribune. "With the passing of Chris over a year ago, and the momentum towards removing the stigma from mental health issues and suicidal thoughts, it was very important to have a song from that point of view."

"I've had mental illness issues in my family and among my friends in the past, and there's a current trend toward this demystification to encourage people, among your friends, loved ones and professionals, there is help and there are ways… Every Step That I Take is about how the dreams, and depression, and love and the lack of it on the emotional steps of the gallows are processed."

Tom's new solo LP The Atlas Underground is out next Friday, October 12. The album features additional guest appearances from Cage The Elephant singer Matt Schultz, X-Ambassadors, Rise Against's Tim McIlrath, Marcus Mumford and others.
