Tony Iommi has sent a message of support to James Hetfield, following the news that the Metallica frontman has entered rehab. The Black Sabbath legend posted a photo of the pair of them together on Facebook, along with the following statement:

“My best out to James Hetfield. You’ve done the right thing seeking help. I’m thinking of you my friend and wishing you all the very best on your recovery. Looking forward to seeing you back at your best very soon. Your pal Tony.”

As the picture shows, the pair’s friendship goes back decades and in 2006, Metallica even inducted Black Sabbath into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 2006.

Support has been pouring in for the Metallica frontman after the band announced that he was entering rehab and that, as a result, the band were postponing their upcoming tour of Australia and New Zealand.

Just yesterday, Randy Blythe made public how James had helped save his life when he himself was struggling with alcohol addiction while Lamb Of God were on tour with Metallica. For now, their other future plans – including a charity fundraiser in March 2020 for their All Within My Hands Foundation and a series of South American dates the month after – are still on schedule.

Metallica made the announcement about James last weekend with the following statement:

"As most of you probably know, our brother James has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years. He has now, unfortunately, had to re-enter a treatment program to work on his recovery again.

“We fully intend to make our way to your part of the world as soon as health and schedule permit. We’ll let you know as soon as we can.

“Once again, we are devastated that we have inconvenienced so many of you, especially our most loyal fans who often travel great distances to experience our shows.

“We appreciate your understanding and support for James and, as always, thank you for being a part of our Metallica family.”
