Ahead of the release of upcoming sixth album Scaled And Icy this Friday, twenty one pilots have shared new single Saturday… on a Tuesday.
The new track follows Shy Away and Choker, and sees frontman Tyler Joseph sport a pink hairstyle as the pair 'paint the town' and don their finest 'dancing shoes'. In fact, it's an uplifting sound that he addressed in our comeback interview with the band recently, explaining that it would have been "too predictable to hold a mirror up to our circumstances and create a record exactly as it appeared in front of us".
"I didn’t think that a dismal record was appropriate; the idea of escaping that was more appealing to me,” he said. "The reason why it feels almost disconnected from the reality in which the record was created is intentional. It’s gonna feel a little lighter because of that."
Tyler did stress that there'd be many different moods and emotions displayed across the whole of Scaled And Icy, though.
"What you’re inundated with [at first] is shiny, and colourful, and seemingly upbeat," he explained. "But, as always, as you dive into lyrics, a lot of times it’s asking some pretty heavy questions and addressing some pretty heavy things. That was intentional."
Scaled And Icy is due out on May 21 via Fueled By Ramen. twenty one pilots will be performing a global livestream event on the same day as the album release.
