Watch Greta Thunberg Sing Swedish Death Metal

This YouTuber’s metallization of Greta Thunberg’s speech shows just how brutal the activist truly is.

On Monday, 16-year-old Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg lost it at the United Nations, calling out world leaders for parading her around and asking for her words of hope rather than actually do anything about the dying planet around them. The speech garnered her support from the rock and metal communities, with Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale referring to her as “our modern day Joan of Arc.” Now, a YouTuber has set Greta’s tirade to death metal, and the result proves just how hardcore the teenage activist truly is.

As you’ll see in the footage below, the creator of this video overdubbed Greta’s voice with guttural death metal vocals. However, he still recites her speech word-for-word, and listening to her words as death-growls makes you realize how badass Greta was for saying them. Lines like “You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words” and “We are in the beginning of a mass extinction and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth — how dare you?” might as well be lyrics to a Pig Destroyer track.

Hell yes.

Climate change activism isn’t new to rock and metal, and plenty of artists have already made moves to help try and save the planet. French metal act Gojira have long tried to make environmental decline a public issue; 2016’s Magma continued the band’s quest to save the Earth, its lyrics encouraging listeners to stand up and take action in order to stem the tide of climate change. Meanwhile, in 2010 political punks Anti-Flag teamed up with the charity UseLess and created limited edition recycled T-shirts, with the proceeds going towards clean water projects in Sierra Leone.
