Having shown that pop-punk from overseas can kick it just as hard as anything from the US itself, courtesy of a 2017 Vans Warped Tour headline run that’ll last long in the memories of those who caught it, Wrexham’s Neck Deep are exhibiting a softer, rather-more-pastel-shaded side to themselves in the new video for In Bloom. Watch it below.

The song – the fourth to have been revealed ahead of the release of new album The Peace And The Panic, which drops on Friday August 18 – premiered on Daniel P Carter’s Radio 1 Rock Show. Now its video is out there for everyone to soak in, its sweet-shop shades – nobody else getting Parma Violets vibes? – contrasting pretty sharply with frontman Ben Barlow’s peroxide locks.

In Bloom is another illustration of the five-piece’s evolution, as they approach the release of their third album. From fizzy debut Wishful Thinking to the summery sounds of Life’s Not Out To Get You, to this: something, dare we say it, more mature from the band, and definitely deviating from the expected.

Of In Bloom, Barlow says: “It was the first piece of music we wrote for the new album, and it kickstarted the whole creative process. Originally it was to be purely acoustic, and over time we built it out into a full-band song. In many ways, it set the bar and tone for the rest of the album. It’s pretty down-tempo for us, yet it builds and climaxes in one of my favourite arrangements we’ve ever created.”

And said album, produced by Mike Green (Paramore, Pierce The Veil), can be pre-ordered here.
